LEARN • TRAIN • PERFORM • WIN — A huge round of applause to Jacob Denham and Eli Stains, two outstanding junior members of the New Line Gladiators Boxing Team, for delivering a jaw-dropping Olympic-style boxing performance at the Annual United Boxing Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Jacob Denham earned a unanimous decision victory over Mason Bird of Razor Sharpe Boxing Club, showcasing skill, composure, and determination throughout the bout. Meanwhile, Eli Stains battled his way to a hard-fought split decision victory over Serhii Zemlianskyi of Power Boxing Club in an exciting and closely contested matchup.

Much respect to Mason Bird and Serhii Zemlianskyi for their fearless and courageous performances. In boxing, the greatest victory is often the lesson learned, and all four athletes represented themselves and their clubs with pride and heart.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in the near future. Until then — keep your hands up, move your head, and keep punching.

WCB NEWS - EDMONTON, AB. 2026

Noah Essien, a three-time Saskatchewan Provincial Champion, travelled to Alberta to defend his 75 kg title at the 2026 Alberta Golden Gloves Championship in Spruce Grove.

In his opening bout, Essien faced Illya Zaryshnyuk of Southside Legion Boxing Club (Edmonton). What unfolded was a true “rumble in the jungle”, a relentless, high-tempo contest from the opening bell. After an intense start, Essien made the necessary adjustments to Zaryshnyuk’s pace, asserting control and securing a decisive unanimous decision victory to advance to the finals.

In the championship bout, Essien squared off against another Southside Legion fighter, Viktor Salamakha. Returning to his hallmark tactical precision, Essien delivered a composed and calculated performance. He established dominance with sharp, accurate jabs and punctuated exchanges with powerful overhand rights. Demonstrating high ring IQ, he seamlessly adapted between European structure, American rhythm, and Cuban fluidity. The result was a clean sweep, unanimous decisions from all five veteran judges. Essien not only retained his middleweight title but distinguished himself as the tournament’s top athlete, earning the prestigious “Golden Boy” award.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for both the New Line Gladiators and Boxing Saskatchewan. The last time a Saskatchewan boxer claimed the Golden Gloves “Golden Boy” title was in 2019, by Emile Smith of the Lloydminster Boxing Club; at the Alberta Golden Gloves Championship.
