Bre Hoy Softball Memorial Scholarship

Good afternoon and Happy Friyayyyy!!! I hope everyone is out enjoying this lovely warmer weather . . . which means softball season in WI is soon to be underway - which also means its time to announce our 2nd recipient of the Bre Hoy Softball Memorial Scholarship!

As a lil background info on the scholarship - we launched the ability to apply for the scholarship through Bold.org in August 2025 and recieved over 600 applications this time around! Each applicant must submit an essay in which they go into greater depth about their softball career: how the game has taught them about themselves and shaped who they are, what kind of teammate they have been, and where they see their softball career going in the future. We look at applicants from the midwest and read through their essays and determine together who we think best exemplifies Bre - as not just a softball player but as a teammate, friend and leader.

This year we are excited to share with you all that we have chosen Evelyn LaVoy from Oregon, WI as our official 2nd winner of the Bre Hoy Softball Memorial Scholarship!!! Evelyn is continuing her softball career at Lawrence University in Appleton WI with a 3.76 GPA studying medical practice. We were all impressed with her committment to her Oregon softball community choosing to play with teammates that became family which became an environment that allowed her to flourish as a leader, develop perserverance over perfection and an opportunity to influence the next generation!

In response this is the thank you we received from Evelyn:
I am writing with deep gratitude for being selected as a recipient of the Bre Hoy Memorial Softball Scholarship. Being chosen to help carry forward Bre Hoy’s legacy is both an honor and a responsibility I do not take lightly—especially knowing this scholarship celebrates a love for softball and the values the game instills. I promise to carry her name in my heart as I pursue my dreams in softball and in medicine.

Your generosity has a real and meaningful impact on my life - I am very grateful. This support eases the financial weight of my education and allows me to focus more fully on my studies, my commitment as a student-athlete, and my volunteer work. Balancing academics, athletics, and service requires dedication, and this scholarship makes it possible for me to keep showing up with intention and purpose.

Softball has shaped who I am, much like it Bre was shaped by her experiences. It has taught me how to be resilient when things are hard, how to work alongside others toward a shared goal, and how to lead with empathy—lessons that extend far beyond the field. These experiences have inspired my goal of pursuing a career in family medicine or exercise science, where I hope to support others through compassion, care, and a commitment to overall wellness.

I am HONORED to represent the spirit of Bre Hoy through this scholarship. Her legacy inspires me to live with grit, kindness, and purpose, and I carry those values with me every day as I work toward a future dedicated to helping others.

Thank you for believing in me and for investing in my journey. I will strive to honor both Bre’s memory and your generosity in all that I do.

We hope that her fall ball schedule allows Evelyn and her family/friends to join us on September 12th to celebrate Bre and all the family and friends that will be there to remember and celebrate her :)

Good morning and Happy Sunday 🌞 It’s been one week since our 2nd Annual Bre Hoy Memorial Wiffle Ball Tourney!!! And man oh man did yall show up and show out!!! We were able to raise an additional $2675!!!

Thank you, thank you and thank you to all of you that were able to donate, come enjoy the day, get a wiffle ball team together to play, and put together auction baskets. It was an amazing day filled with people who were there to celebrate Bre and the impact she made on all of our lives 🥰💚🥎

We look forward to seeing everybody back next year! And hopefully someone can take down the two time champions - Grand Slamwhiches. Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures to share with everyone - so feel free to add any pics that you took throughout the day to share. Thanks again everyone and let’s make next year even bigger and brighter 😁

Alrighty everyone we are a little over 2 weeks away from the wiffle ball tourney!!!

A couple of updates for yall - we have 7-8 teams signed up and ready to play - I am hoping we can get a couple more teams/people there to celebrate Bre - so if you are interested please let me know! Secondly we are going to start the event a little later than last time - we are asking everyone to be there at 1pm for the ceremonial first pitch being thrown out by Nora Johnson - our first ever Bre Hoy Softball Memorial Scholarship recipient! The double elimination tournament will start with the first games getting underway at 1.30pm!

We can't wait to see yall there and ready to wiffleball :)

Happy Friyayyyyy everyone!!! We are officially one month away from the 2nd Annual Bre Hoy Memorial Wiffle Ball Tourney! The plan is to run this tournament every year to help provide funds for the scholarship we will be giving out yearly in honor of Bre!

If you haven't yet figured out the 4-5 people you will be bringing with you on October 4th to create your wiffle ball team - NOW IS THE TIME :) Cost is $50 to register your team and all of the proceeds go to the Bre Hoy Softball Memorial Scholarship Fund. In August of 2022 Bre Hoy was involved in a tragic accident, although she fought hard to stay here she eventually passed away from this accident in March of 2023. Happy Happy 1st Year Anniversay of the Bre Hoy Memorial Wiffle Ball Tourney!!!

When I first brought the idea of creating a scholarship in Bre’s honor/name to Becca, Kacey and Sheila - I also wanted to find a way to remember her - not just her name but her personality - you know the bite your head off but also give you the biggest bear hug type 😉 And throwing a big wiffle ball partay always seemed like the best way to do that!!! We also thought this would be the best way to fund her scholarship so we could hand it out to a future collegiate level softball player each and every year.

Through this wiffle ball tourney we were able to raise an additional $800 to put toward the Bre Hoy Memorial Softball Scholarship - this along with all the generous donations you provided allowed us to hand out our first ever scholarship for $2000 to Nora Johnson this spring 😊

In the future we would like this wiffle ball tourney to fully fund the Bre Hoy Memorial Softball Scholarship every year. And so with that our next Bre Hoy Memorial Wiffle Ball Tourney is scheduled for October 4th!!!

Last year we were able to play a round robin style tourney with the 6 teams that signed up! A huge thank you to those of you who got a team together and played and congrats to the Grand Slamwhiches who took home the honor of being the 1st ever champs 😁

We hope to have even more fun this year on October 4th with even more teams and more opportunities to honor Bre!!!

So save the date for October 4th - get your teams together and let’s get ready to wiffle ball it up 🤩🥎

Good afternoon and Happy Friyayyyy!!! I know it was snowing today 😕 but today also marks the first full weekend of March - which also means its officially softball season in WI 🥎

And with that I would like to announce our first recipient of the Bre Hoy Memorial Softball Scholarship! We had over 350 applicants through the Bold scholarship website and we decided to narrow down our search for someone who was from the midwest, was going to play softball in college and who shared the same passion and enthusiasm for the game of softball and their teammates as Bre did. We had many great applicants but we decided to give the first ever scholarship to Nora Johnson!!! As some of you may know Nora is the little sister of Becca Johnson - one of Bre's best friends from WLC 😊 We are super exicted to hand out this scholarship to someone that Bre knew and someone that will continue to honor Bre throughout her collegiate career!

Here is a little bit of info on Nora and her response to recieving the first ever Bre Hoy Memorial Softball Scholarship:
Nora Johnson is a senior from Illinois who attends Metamora Township High School. She has played softball for 11 years and has received numerous accolades on the softball diamond including - 2022 2nd Team All Conference. 2023 1st Team All Conference and 2nd Team All State and 2024 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team All State. She is attending Maryville University next year to study Criminal Justice/Criminology and will also continue her career on the softball diamond hoping to become a great asset to the pitching staff and earn a key spot in the lineup/rotation as a freshman. With one of her biggest goals of becoming an All American by the end of her 4 years!
'I applied for this scholarship because Bre was my sister's best friend and became like another older sister to me. I am extremely happy that I received this scholarship as I think it is a great way to honor Bre. Bre loved the game of softball and to be able to honor her with this scholarship, and be able to play the sport she loved so much means the world to me.'

We are excited to see Nora achieve amazing things in college and hopefully we will get a chance to see her on the wiffle ball field as well 😁

Happy Friyayyyy everyone!!! I wanted to create a space where we could honor Bre with our memories of her and keep you all updated on where we are with the scholarship and the annual wiffle ball tourney moving forward!

So first official news - we have finally got the scholarship launched through Bold.org and are already receiving applicants. Thanks to all of you who donated to the scholarship fund to make this possible and those of you who joined us for the first ever Bre Hoy Memorial Wiffle Ball Tournament! We were able to raise an additional $800 towards the scholarship fund to increase our fund total to $6,500!!! Since we would like to give out this scholarship each year we have decided to award $2000 to one applicant of our choosing and we hope to share this individual with you all at the next wiffle ball tourney.
