Are you finding yourself on Halloween without your kids? Maybe they are too old to want you around? Do you want to ditch them and hand out treats on Halloween? You are not alone… we have received more requests about this year than any other! There’s no need for advanced authorization to set up a treat station. There are just a few rules to follow:
1. The road closes from 5-8pm on Halloween night. This means you cannot drive out of Kimball Hill until the road opens. So making a plan for the end of the night is a good idea.
2. We cannot block the road or parking areas for a treat station. That means that anything in the road needs to happen after the road is closed at 5pm.
3. The village green is a popular spot — though it is a privately owned property, historically it is used to mill around and set up treat stations. Any area is first come first served. Setup on the green could happen before 5pm.
4. Though there’s a treat drive to collect donated treats, those treats are primarily for residences up and down Kimball Hill. We cannot supply treats for stations.
5. We will post separately about this but every year, on November 1st, we do a sweep in daylight to clean up the road and the green. There is Halloween detritus everywhere and we want to leave the town with no trace! This is particularly important if you have a treat station with significant setup (feathers, fake greenery, etc.)
You are welcome to reach out with questions but there is no advance approval for participating in Halloween in Putney, VT as a treat station. Looking forward to seeing what folks have in store!
