HAPPY MONDAY matcha freaks!

I want to take a moment to shine some light on my tried and true matcha freak team — + pictured here with matcha freak friend and industry legend .

These two amazing women deal with a lot in making the matcha freak reality for all of us.

First, they have to deal with me…a psychotic matcha freak dreamer that demands that we break out of every assumption that is made about the path we are trying to walk and instead work creatively to find our authentic footing and voice.

The work they do with me is responsive and taken with such care. They not only believe in the matcha freak value system and see it with such clarity, they reflect it back to me in their own ways and help me refine it.

I’ve been working alongside Zoey aka for 10 years. I hired her at cafe I was running and watched her thrive…growing into manager positions within then first year. And we have worked together in multiple jobs throughout the past decade. She has the ability to make anyone’s day turn from bad to joy filled. Zoey is by far one of the best customer experience stewards I have ever had the pleasure of working with. A true diamond 💎 and watching her creative abilities bloom into the flavor wizard that is showcased in her pops is one of the best experiences of my career.

I met Sezzie about 5 years ago when she and her husband moved to PDX and both quickly climbed to the top of Portland Cafe world with management jobs and Heart coffee and Proud Mary. Sezzie ran the bar at Prouds for 5 years..training, implementing every kind of system, and refining every aspect of service that Prouds is famous for. She was a matcha freak client and throughout the years a steadfast friendship came to be…the foundation composed of our shared analytical brains paired with a tireless work ethos and witchy q***r ways.
Sezzie has transformed the way I work and the efficiency of the business within the past year. To say we are blessed, would be an understatement.

Anyways, all this is to say, matcha freak would be NOTHING without the freaks you see here.

I am so proud to know and work alongside these two 🥹

It’s the last day of le***an visibility week, and I realized that I have never really communicated on this platform how proud we are to be a q***r owned business.

The softness, understanding, and OUTRAGEOUS CREATIVITY of our LGBTQ+ community is what inspires literally everything that we do…with matcha, partnerships, events, art, music, branding…turns out being gay and obsessed with plants is really freaking inspiring

It is also what helps us build bridges of infinite understanding and compassion. And at a time where we are seeing many realities filled hate and erasure, we are empowered by our q***rness to see what others overlook and to tell stories in a new way.

X CHAWAN DROP 💕💚

Katy (MF Founder) has been dreaming of custom made chawans since the beginning and this collaboration with Alexandria is a dream come true.

Ceramic vessels used for tea are an inherent part of tea drinking culture around the world, especially in Japan. Very often households will possess vessels made from both local and international artists alike; and when the vessels are used, stories of both the artist and how they were found will be told to guests. The narrative of ceramics is a constant and welcomed presence.

Katy and Alexandria have been part of the fabric of the small business creative community in Portland, Oregon for years. This custom project has brought them together to tell stories of color, inspiration, and texture.

Alexandria has traveled to Japan to study ceramics and has been inspired by the Japanese way of working with clay. Together they picked out the colors that speak to the overall brand and essence of bridging both Japanese and Portland creative cultures.
