Tonight on Turner Classic Movie channel, host and film historian, Jacqueline Stewart is screening films by director Michael Schultz. Both were honored at the Black Bottom Film Festival AND later, TCM is screening Oscar Micheaux's silent film Within Our Gates (1919). In 2024, we commissioned jazz musician Howie Alexander to write a suite of music for the film and he performed while we watched film in our theater. Amazing film and experiences abound at the August Wilson Center.
The Black Bottom Film Festival is on hiatus due to funding, but will return strong in 2027.

On Sunday at 1pm Join us at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center when we welcome Tenel Dorsey's Cafe Ase, a pop-up coffee shop in the lobby of the Center. In true Tenel style there will be a fabulous ribbon cutting! Stop in for a cappuccino, visit the August Wilson exhibit, The Writer's Landscape, BECOME A MEMBER. I'll be there enjoying my coffee and a book!
