We’re kicking off Season Two of The MUSE•eum events (.eum) with Centered.PHX (.phx) documentary screening of Toni Cade Bambara! ()

Join us at Phoenix Center for the Arts () for a screening of TCB: The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing, a documentary celebrating the life, work, and cultural legacy of writer, filmmaker, educator, and organizer Toni Cade Bambara.

It feels fitting to begin our second season with a woman who understood that storytelling, art, community, and organizing aren’t separate practices. They are ways we build culture together.

We should also document where we gathered, who gathered us, what we listened to, where we danced, which nights became “that night”, and who created the conditions that allowed us to find one another.”

“One of the biggest contradictions I see is that many of us want more free cultural experiences while simultaneously believing artists should be fairly compensated. Both values are important. But they cannot coexist without someone intentionally deciding to fund the difference. Free admission doesn’t eliminate the cost of producing culture. It redistributes it. That’s an uncomfortable realization because it forces us to ask who should absorb that cost.”

A social mixer for HBCU alumni, culture-builders, and community-minded folks who miss the feeling of the yard, the conversations, and the connection.
