Welcome to our Cacao Pod, a place for roasting and toasting! A private event space by the folks at Shane Confectionery and Franklin Fountain.

On Thursday, July 16th, join confectionery historian Laurel Burmeister, and Senior Pastry Assistant Rose Kyler, in exploring humans time honored quest for a better sugar. Honey, maple syrup, beet sugar, cane sugar, sucralose, aspartame, saccarine, sorbitol, stevia, monk fruit — Will we ever agree upon an ideal sweetener?

Guests will enjoy a hands on talk learning about the history and chemistry behind popular sweeteners. They will be able to test their ability to tell one from another, and they will be able to see and taste the difference when used to bake sugar cookies.

Artisan Liege Style Fresh Waffles are proofed the night before your event in our chocolate warming cabinet picking up the decadent smells of chocolate 👃🍫 then cooked to caramely goodness in the space hours prior to your guest's arrival to the pod, allowing the cooked sugar to linger in the air inside. You'll be bathed in a bath of cooked sugar upon entering your party! 😍

The Cacao Pod, a new event space in Philadelphia's Old City, is a partnership between Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionery. The venue, located in a historic building, features a full ice cream counter, soda fountain, and hot chocolate bar.
