Our mission is to empower youth through FIBA-Sanctioned 3x3 tournaments, teaching sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership on and off the court. IBOA 3x3 is a youth basketball program powered by the International Basketball Officials Academy (IBOA). Leadership means never stopping the work of learning.

IBOA Executive Director Mark Lewis has completed the FIBA 3x3 Basketball Preparation Program, an e-learning training program from FIBA and the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) focused on preparing players and teams for the 3x3 game.

The training strengthens knowledge in areas including player development, spacing, transition play, and 3x3-specific offensive and defensive concepts.

As IBOA continues developing youth 3x3 programming across Philadelphia, we hold ourselves to the same standard we teach:

Youth basketball should be a place where young people are developed β€” not simply displayed.

Exposure has its place. But when exposure becomes the priority, development can easily become secondary.

Young athletes need environments that teach and reinforce discipline, patience, teamwork, responsibility, and how to respond to challenges. They need adults who are willing to invest in the process, not just the outcome.

WELCOME TO IBOA OFFICIALS

IBOA welcomes Shaborn Henderson as our Referee Training Associate.

Shaborn brings approximately 17 years of basketball officiating experience, including women’s NCAA Division I, II, III and junior college basketball. His background also includes training and developing officials, tournament assigning, and referee observation.

With , Shaborn will support virtual and in-person referee training, provide on-court feedback, and contribute to the development of new and emerging officials. He will also continue building his experience within IBOA’s FIBA 3x3 officiating program.

Adding experienced officials who can teach, evaluate, and help others improve is an important part of strengthening the IBOA Officials development pathway.

IBOA is proud to welcome Ravshan Ganiev as our πˆππŽπ€ πŸ‘π±πŸ‘ π“πžπœπ‘π§π’πœπšπ₯ πƒπžπ―πžπ₯𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚π₯ π‘πžπ₯𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐒𝐬𝐨𝐫.

Ravshan brings decades of basketball experience as a former player, referee, federation executive, and 3x3 development professional. He previously served as Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Uzbekistan and represented the federation in international basketball settings.

His background includes referee development, 3x3 officiating, event operations, basketball administration, and international program development. Ravshan has also worked directly with IBOA, including officiating at the IBOA 3x3 Nacla Cup.

In this role, Ravshan will support IBOA’s 3x3 technical development, referee education, clinic structure, event operations, and international relations. He will also help identify qualified instructors, officials, and basketball professionals who can contribute to IBOA programs and strengthen our international network.

Ben brings more than two decades of basketball officiating experience, including NCAA competition and postseason assignments. He also brings 33 years of experience as an educator in Philadelphia.

In this role, Ben will support emerging officials through mentorship, preparation, rules education, professionalism, communication, and leadership development.

His experience and perspective will also be valuable as IBOA continues developing its referee education initiatives and future officials training opportunities.

IBOA 3x3 recently joined the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation summer camp at Rivera Recreation Center for a youth basketball development session led by Coach Dave Gounis, IBOA 3x3 Skills Development Coach.

Participants worked on basketball fundamentals, movement, decision-making and concepts they could apply through 3x3 gameplay.

We appreciate Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the team at Rivera Recreation Center for the opportunity to work with their young people and bring FIBA 3x3 into the summer camp experience.
