Some days are made for celebrating creativity & the incredible things it inspires✨

Today is a celebration of imagination and the joy of making something uniquely your own. Few things capture the spirit of National Creativity Day quite like a quilt “Creative Energy” by artist Sheryl Gillilan. Creating a quilt is an exercise in creativity itself—choosing fabrics, experimenting with design, solving challenges, and transforming a vision into a work of art. Sheryl exemplifies that journey, showcasing the innovative thinking and artistic expression that make quilting such a dynamic art form.

QuiltFest hopes this post inspires you to finally start that project you’ve been imagining. After all, creativity grows when we give it room to flourish!

Get ready to do a little dance…spots are still available in instructor Patricia Belyea’s virtual summer workshop💃🏻

By bringing her signature Inserted Curves technique to QuiltFest Virtual Summer Schoolhouse, our students will have the opportunity to make a lyrical quilt composition full of curves in “Dancing Xs” on Thursday, June 25th.

In her 6 hour workshop students will begin their projects by inserting two intersecting curved lines into a 12-inch square of fabric. Curves will then be designed and sewn flat to create movement and energy in the piece. By making six blocks in one color combination and six blocks in another, students will be able to arrange blocks into a striking checkerboard configuration.

Through Patricia’s clear, step-by-step teaching style, the class will be guided to stretch their creative muscles and build confidence with curved piecing. Register today (https://bit.ly/4wWjGsc) to gain practical construction skills, design insight and a fresh approach to working with curves that is bound to apply to future quilts!

Wrapped in stitches of gratitude🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who answered the call to serve and stood courageously for our freedom. QuiltFest honors the heroes who gave everything and came home in our hearts, not in our arms. May we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

This post is dedicated to every service member and the families who carry their memory forward, we thank you for your strength and selflessness❤️🤍💙

Don’t flutterby this post without taking a moment to admire Betsy Vinegrad’s beautiful work of art🦋

Inspired by a visit to a butterfly garden, Betsy captured the graceful movement of butterflies in all their varying shapes, sizes, and colors through layered and overlapping circles that mimic delicate butterfly wings. The symmetry and thoughtful color placement in “Flutterby” evoke the peaceful feeling of watching butterflies gently dance through the garden.

The quilt is an original design, machine pieced and machine quilted on a stationary machine, showcasing both technical precision and artistic beauty in every stitch!

♦️Red is so much more than a color, it’s a feeling for artist Valerie Maser-Flanagan♦️

In her piece she explores the emotional power of red through the SAQA quilt exhibit, “Color in Context: Red.” Valerie uses rich hues as she finds the color red makes her feel centered and connected.

As Valerie shares, her chosen word strength was her yearly focus for the past five years, making her reflect on her personal journey toward strength and inner growth. Drawn repeatedly to a red palette, she discovered the color’s connection to the root chakra, symbolizing grounding, stability, and self-awareness.

“Byways #1” became more than a quilt, it’s a visual meditation on being centered and anchored in who we are✨

What’s better than one tulip quilt to share on Tulip Day? Why, two of course🌷🌷

Today we’re sharing “Tulips #1” and “Tulips #2” by Jill Coleman, two beautifully revived quilts with roots dating back to the 1930s and 1940s. Though the original maker remains unknown, these vintage treasures were lovingly repieced and longarm quilted in 2024, giving their tulip blooms new life for generations to enjoy.

The first piece began as a quilt top purchased through an online auction. Originally set on point, Jill carefully reworked the design into straight rows using the original fabrics, adding peach and green inner borders to frame the cheerful tulips. And nothing went to waste! The second quilt was created using the leftover tulip blocks and fabrics from the first one in addition to pieced blocks from other projects.

These quilts proved even scraps can bloom into something beautiful✨

Today we celebrate the women who first wrapped us in love — mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and mother figures whose care & guidance helped shape who we become🤰🏻👩🏼👵🏾

Celebrating with “Maternal Origin of Me. MOM,” artist Rosell Bede Crockett submitted her piece last year to be a part of QuiltFest’s exhibit “Celebrating Women: A Quilter’s Perspective Challenge”. This heartfelt quilt was dedicated to the Rosell’s mother, honoring her life.

In the spirit of this special day, we encourage quilters everywhere to celebrate the special women in their lives by creating and dedicating a quilt of their own. Every stitch can tell a story & we want to hear yours!

Wishing you all a beautiful Mother’s Day💝
