Smile and say cheeeese! This guy blew a nasty nasty abcess that was brewing for about 7 weeks… about 7 months later it was starting to reach the ground and exposed….. I tell all my customers, the lameness during the abcess is the easy part… the hard part is usually 6-8 months later when I actually get to deal with the results of the abcess pocket…. Sometimes they are nothing and other times they lead to a big ole resection leaving very little to nail to… a quick W shoe with a pour in pad to help give some protection kept this mounted patrol horse in action.

The newest member of Wise Forge got Jackson fixed up for .schwartzz…. 4 years old, and since she’s not allowed to play with knives, I knifed the foot… But Della insisted she should trim that foot, so that’s exactly what she did!!! “You become, who you hang around”… society seems to struggle with this idea, yet generation after generation has proven it to be true. I’m so thankful to have great clients that always give Della such great company on days she goes to work with me.

Some feet are eye appealing, and some aren’t. I have shod this horse, and I have had other farrier friends shoe this horse… the general consensus… He is really hard to fit… why? Because his feet aren’t the shape of most front feet we see…. The single hardest thing farriers do in the words of is to “ Fit the foot as to which we trim”. The simple fact is, it’s a basic task that can become extremely hard if we aren’t diligent about upkeep of our skill set.

The Bucket…. Arguably one of the most sought after prizes in the Farrier community… I can remember my first couple years going to the WCB contests and watching so many of my hero’s leaving with these buckets and thinking it was an impossible idea to think I could win one… This is a trade that can chew you up, spit you out, and make you say “ what the hell even happened” how? Because we stray away from what matters… the basics.. the group of people at the are leading the way and giving farriers a place to come together to improve our basics. Being apart of this picture and in the presence of this group of guys was an absolute honor, here’s to continuing to improve ourselves! 📸 credit:
