I must have first heard Phil back in high school when I began hanging out with the hippies. The first time I saw him with the Grateful Dead was in Syracuse, 1976 for which even though I had a ride from Oswego Ihitched anyway as that seemed appropriate. Many years and many shows later we had our first family gathering at a Phil and Friends show at Jones Beach, my kids were 16 and 10, that would be 1998. later I would meet Josh and and some of his friends out from Portland in NYC to see a Phil show. Later still in 2015, Kathy and I with both Josh and Pete and their future wives would meet in Chicago for Fare the Well. we are somewhere in the middle of this crowd. To be there with my family was one of th ebest moments of my life. (There have been others moments that the Dead don't figure in but those are for another time). Ironically Phil came to my hometown last year and I was out of town for a wedding. A life well lived Phil Lesh. thaks for sharing it with me.
