Coach Al

Coach Al I work with athletes of all ability levels and experience. Message me and let's chat about your goals! I'd love to help.

Coach Al has been a USA Triathlon certified coach since 1998. He has been there and done that when it comes to racing. And most importantly, he is passionate about sharing what he's learned in his almost 35 years of experience as an endurance athlete. He also is a certified strength coach (CSCS) and kettlebell instructor (HKC). More than the certifications however, his vast experience speak not to

just "reading about it in a book," but about learning the hard way, through relentless trial and error, making mistakes, experimenting some more, studying, and then trying again and again. As an athlete, Coach Al is a 9x Ironman fininisher including 3 finishes at the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, HI, Coach has set his sights on finishing his first 100 mile ultra-marathon. He possesses a 2:39 marathon PR (Boston) and a 10:19 Ironman PR (Lake Placid). This continues to show up as being a quite positive thing for improving adaptation to training. That being said, if your goals are different - say, for example, to have the opportunity to extend lifespan, this might not be as positive a thing to do. It's all about what you want, short and long term.

In my experience, most things which feel "tight" are not "short," but rather.....are near areas of the body which are unstable. Rather than stretching those "tight" areas passively, instead focus on stability in that region. Then follow up your stability work with Pails and Rails, to address strength and control at end range. This is a great path to reduce or even eliminate problem "tightness."
