We’re saddened to announce that we won’t be hosting the Oklahoma Highland Gathering in 2026. During this time, we’ll be shifting our focus to smaller, more frequent events and creating opportunities for more Oklahomans to engage with Scottish culture.

Stay tuned with us via email and social media for more updates! We have some exciting initiatives in the works.

We remember those who were killed, those who survived, and those whose lives were changed forever.

Today marks the 280th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It was here that the Jacobite army took their last stand to reclaim the thrones of Britain from the Hanoverians for a Stuart king. Although a short battle, it was an exceptionally bloody one that changed life in the Highlands forever.

Severe measures were introduced to keep any Jacobite activities at bay, with sustained oppression by the Government in an attempt to break down the clan system. Clan chiefs were deprived of their legal powers and clansmen of their weapons; Jacobite estates were seized by the Crown; and the kilt and tartan were banned. The combination of anti-Gaelic laws and the Highland Clearances also led to a low point for Gaelic, from which the language is arguably still trying to recover.

Since the mid-19th century, Culloden Battlefield has become a place of pilgrimage for people from Scotland and throughout the world. Some visitors are descendants of those who fought; others are gripped by the extraordinary story. For many, it’s a deeply moving place – one where the weight of the loss can still be felt.
