Announcing our SFZF 2026 Guest of Honor: V. Vale!!! Writer and publisher of the punk tabloid Search & Destroy and numerous other titles under RE/Search, Vale has defined and documented the punk scene and its fringes since punk began. You may have seen him in North Beach at his zine table outside City Lights Booksellers, which gave him funding to start publishing in 1977. Or you may have caught him as an exhibitor at past SF Zine Fests, interviewed in documentaries about the scene, or quoted and cited in articles about punk bands, counterculture, your favorite artist, philosophies for living your way, or zines themselves.

We’re so proud and excited to have Vale as our Guest of Honor! Explore the RE/Search catalog at www.researchpubs.com and learn more about Vale: www.instagram.com/vale_research or www.facebook.com/researchpubs.

Official SFZF poster and merch made by Vale coming soon! And the full SF Zine Fest schedule will be announced this summer with our annual Thinking Captions Zine Reading featuring Vale and his three handpicked invited guests (who are also making us drool, announcing them soon!) and plan to attend our annual Guest of Honor Q&A at the fest on Sunday, September 6.

We had a blast at the SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Free Community Day on May 24! We saw 1900+ lovely visitors, met 400 youth and adults who interacted with our zines and zine-making supplies, and heard lots of excitement about and zine making! We displayed our SFZF zine library (a tiny portion of it) for browsing, taught folks how to create and fold their own zines, and talked about zines A LOT (our favorite subject).

Did you know that SFZF tables and teaches zine-making workshops at schools, other zine events, and community events throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento area?✏️ Contact us through the SFZF website -- or come to Zine Fest and let's talk about it!

Apply for !!! Open May 15 through June 14 at midnight. Fill out your application at the links in www.sfzinefest.org or linktr.ee/sfzinefest! WE’RE SO EXCITED⚡

We have two versions of the application form — one requires a gmail account for uploading photos of your zines, and the other one doesn’t require any login. (You’ll email us photos of your zines separately).

A panel of folks will review applications and curate a really awesome bunch of zine creators for our 25TH ANNIVERSARY SF Zine Fest!! Give us some time, as we get hundreds of applications every year and it’s next-to-impossible when everyone’s zines are so so so cool.

Want your application to get noticed? Tell us A LOT about your zines! Send pics of your zines, talk about your zine making process, tell us what zines mean to you, describe which zines you’ll be exhibiting if you get in. We love zines.

Btw, the application is online, not by mail! This post shows a letter just for fun. 🙃🖥️

[Image description: Slides 1 through 3 show text reading “Applications for SFZF 2026 are open! May 15 through June 14” with the SFZF logo in the lower left corner and a handwritten envelope addressed to SF Zine Fest with “Application enclosed!” on it.

⚡New SFZF internship?!!⚡Help make the 25th annual SF Zine Fest happen!

The organizing crew is looking for zine enthusiasts to help in various roles for planning the fest. More info on the “SFZF Internship Interest Form” on linktr.ee/sfzinefest, or this direct link to the form: https://forms.gle/vgQFqbWJxe6LH4Vi6. Fill it out!

Curious who you’ll be working with❓ SFZF is a non-profit and is currently run by the six of us who organized the 2025 fest! We each have specific roles that we work on during spring and summer, then come together during late August—early September to host the fest and host our pre/post fest events.

Curious what you’d be doing❓ We’re excited to learn about your skills, experience, and what you’d like to do. Planning SFZF every year involves applying for grants, making formal arrangements with our venue and vendors, reviewing applications, recruiting and managing 20+ volunteers, promoting the fest, showing up to our events to do whatever is needed, making the event accessible, and way more.

👀 We’re moving to a new venue this year—you can help make the changes go smoothly!

SFZF is celebrating our 25th year and moving to a new venue! We’re making progress finding one that’s in SF, fully accessible, BARTable, and has enough space for our big ol’ zine fest.

Since SFZF started in 2001, we’ve held the annual fest at a bunch of venues: the Women’s Building, the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, online-only SFZF Cyber Fest from 2020 to 2022, City View at Metreon from 2023 to 2025, etc etc

What’s next?? We’ll announce it soon!
