However, it was envisioned and founded in 2011 by Steve Serasis as a community initiative bringing local music artists & community together in Norwalk CT, and well beyond, those borders. With attention to supporting amazing local musicians, from within our community. With everyone, either playing, singing along, and/or dancing' al fresco on spring & summer nights. The goal of building community th
rough music was a success almost form the very start. It’s been a tremendous success. Show #100, in a little over seven years of the initiative took place on June 6, 2019. The strategy of giving free to use, media for marketing, to each and every artist. Made for a budget far below budget expectations. Building Community through Music shows proved to be one fifth of City music budget! The initiative was created with Tuesday Open Jam in Freese Park. Around 2011 a local club shuttered it’s doors, and left a great evening of “open Jam” with the David Lindsay house band, with no where to go...That’s when it hit me. Over 700 volunteer hours, and seven years later, the rest is Norwalk history. On this first initiative, Steve worked with Norwalk Recreation & Parks funding, offered video/photo marketing free for every performing artist, and physically had a paid employee on site for every concert. The purpose of the initiative was to show the city, and community that a great program that truly serves the community, can be done far under budget. The Building Community Through Music initiative supporting local music, bringing people of all walks of life into under-utilized city parks, and spaces, up to three times a week...was a great success. Thank you all, it was priceless! Building Community Through Music is poised for the future, and continued success! With sincere appreciation to everyone whose made it all possible, Steve Serasis.
