Are you bored sitting at home doing the same old thing? Want to get out and about a bit more and make some new friends? Then why not join Encore, the friendly amateur dramatics group based at Hemsby Village Hall. The group is looking for budding actors, singers and dancers to join them onstage for their next pantomime
‘Camelot the Panto’ in December 2026, which will raise money for Sunbeams Community Hub

Rehearsals will take place at Hemsby Village Hall at 7pm every
Wednesday from 15th April until show week.

Newcomers will be most welcome.

If you don't fancy being on the stage but would still like to be involved, we need help with jobs such as making costumes, creating props, building scenery, selling tickets...whatever your talent, come along and get involved, we'd love to see you!

Our joint matinee and evening show is today, with the final show tomorrow. Introducing Beauty, who suddenly finds herself whisked off to a castle filled with mirrors and a terrifying Beast when Ma plucks a rose for her.

"This is my fourth year with Encore Theatre Company and I have enjoyed every minute sharing the stage with such a fantastic group of performers and crew.

I've been a kitchen maid in Sleeping Beauty, Empress in Aladdin and last year I was Seaweed Wilma in Treasure Island. Now, I'm playing Beauty and I'm enjoying the different costumes I get to wear for this role alongside being on the stage with my daughter, who plays my brother Jack."

The show continues and this time we're introducing Morgana's fellow witches the fabulous Herbs!

Thyme:

“I have been acting on stage for 22 years, first with Hemsby Harlequins and now with Encore Theatre Company. This year I play one of Morgana's witches, Thyme, who is a big suck up and doesn’t fancy being turned into a frog again.

I'm loving the challenge of playing a villain for the first time. My favourite scene is when Morgana curses the Prince to become the beast and we sing a truly iconic and dramatic song. I look forward to being bad for this panto.”

Parsley: "Last year, Pippa played the part of a WI member, Pirate and Ben Gunn all in the same show for Treasure Island. She's really enjoying being one of the Herbs and has even dyed her hair to match her costume. Watch out for her strutting her stuff to Morgana's I Put A Spell On You."

Sage:

"From an early age, Christina has loved to sing and act, regularly performing in variety shows with her local Children’s Community Theatre. When teaching later in life, Christina enjoyed her role as Head of Music and helped to produce and direct shows and pantomimes for whole school productions.

Since moving to Norfolk, she has performed with different singing and acting groups and is currently a member of two theatre groups.

Christina loved having the opportunity to play one of the fairies in Encore Theatre Company’s production of Sleeping Beauty and prior to that one of the Gatekeepers in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Last year, she was Polly the Parrot in Treasure Island and had fun trying to climb onto Long John Silver's shoulder.

This year, she's the keeper of Morgana's wand, although Sage can be a bit forgetful in bringing it to her fellow witch sister in time, or perhaps she wants to avoid getting cursed by the irritable Morgana!"

Encore Theatre Company's version of Beauty and the Beast starts tonight! Introducing Beauty's brother Jack (played by me!) and blacksmith Jill. While Jack would love to propose to Jill and make Ma really happy, he's finding it really tricky to commit....

"I’m Lily and I play Jill in this years pantomime.
This is my 3rd show with Encore and It’s been an exciting role this year because I get lots of time on stage with my lovely Nana, who plays Duke.
Last year’s show was so fun to be a part of and I can’t wait to do it again!!"

"Last year, I had so much fun playing Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island. It's great working with everyone as we're all an energetic bunch, especially in the songs and dances, alongside the adlibbing scenes as it's different every night. Just like Lily, I'm enjoying being on the stage with family - my mum is playing the role of my sister Beauty. Off stage, we're often confused as sisters, so now we're bringing it on the stage!"

The show begins tomorrow! Introducing Ginger and Snap, Duke's little helpers, who are always ready to run on and bring him a biscuit - just so long as the audience calls for them :)

Beauty and the Beast will be starting soon! Tickets are still available. This time we're looking at Duke, Beauty's dog, who thinks that he is the star of the show.

"I’ve been involved in amateur dramatics for many years, I was a founding member of Theatre East and their chairman for 20 years.

I’ve also done shows with Stalham players and the English Theatre company in Sitges Spain.

I’ve enjoyed working with everyone at Encore, but the best bit is being on stage with my granddaughter, who is playing Jill."

Introducing Ma, who steals a rose and ends up suffering the Beast's wrath! Ma is also our director for this year's production of Beauty and the Beast. Tickets are still available at Hemsby Post Office, via telephone or at the door on the show nights.

"I have been performing now with Encore Theatre Group for over 10 years but the biggest challenge for me this year is not only playing ‘Ma’ but having my directing debut!

I have really enjoyed directing this amazing cast who have given me 100% commitment and support, alongside a brilliant back stage crew. I am very thankful and so proud of you all. Having watched our previous director Jan over the last few years, I hope I have brought her passion and skill into this production of Beauty and the Beast.

Next year’s production of Camelot the Panto is already being edited ready for 2026!"
