Featured at this year’s Wooden Boat Festival is Olinka, a stunning example of timeless naval architecture and classic yachting pedigree. With her elegant sheer, balanced proportions, and beautifully maintained brightwork, Olinka stands apart as both a work of craftsmanship and a living piece of maritime history. Current owner and director Jonathan Lennard describes stepping aboard as “an immediate sense of craft underfoot” — a boat built with the finest materials and preserved like a time capsule.

Designed by legendary naval architect Olin Stephens, Olinka sits between two of his landmark yachts: Dorade, slightly smaller, and Baruna, slightly larger — distinct designs, with Olinka perfectly placed between them. Adding to her legacy, Olin Stephens himself was photographed aboard Olinka at the Newport show many years ago.

A Boat, A Book, A Legacy
After its six-week voyage through the Sea of Cortez in 1940, the Western Flyer quietly etched its place into American literary history.
Immortalized in John Steinbeck’s The Log From the Sea of Cortez, the boat didn’t become famous overnight. Its story spread slowly—shared between readers who found something unforgettable in its pages.
Now considered by many the most iconic fishing boat in history, the Western Flyer stands as a symbol of curiosity, connection, and the quiet power of a story that lingers. 🌊📖
