In one of our most popular sessions of this year’s , and broke down the harmful effects of euro-centric flavor descriptors and antiquated wine pairing rules.

Miguel, who hails from Manila and runs the wine program at , noted:

“Everybody’s palate, just like their own paths through life, and their own sensory memories, are different. Wine language is just a tool, but it’s a tool that can impose harmful restrictions.

Decolonizing starts with all of us meeting each other against the framework of rules and correctness, and instead in the belief that you and I have something more to offer each other than ‘what grows together, goes together.’ Real connection is the best way to make sure what’s in your glass is delicious.”

What awaits us just outside our comfort zone?

For those who have attended an , you know spontaneous dance has become a big part of our conferences (thanks to and !).

Joyful movement is an excellent way to recenter yourself in your body, especially when your brain is working overtime.

Dancing in public may be outside your comfort zone, just like having tough conversations about inequity might be.

But on the other side of the fear of looking silly, doing the wrong thing, drawing too much attention to ourselves, or being vulnerable are a world of possibilities we’ll only experience if we’re brave enough to go there. 💃

XOBC Cellars was founded in 2019 by multi-Grammy-winning artist , her wife Catherine, and their friends, Jeri and Amy Andrews.

These women fused music and wine with a common goal of making a difference by donating proceeds from XOBC Cellars to Brandi’s Looking Out Foundation. A true outlier, showcasing female & LGBTQ+ leadership, this team of women in wine has raised the bar for the entire industry.
