Kalakars Kalakars is a collective of writers, filmmakers, and actors, striving to disrupt the status quo of South Asian representation in American film and television.

Kalakars is a group of writers, filmmakers, and actors committed to developing and encouraging stories by and about South Asians in the United States. The lab functions as a collaborative workshop environment and a resource and talent pool to support the emerging independent voices of South Asian and South Asian-American cinema. At our bi-weekly sessions, we workshop 10-15 pages of scripts that can be entire shorts, skits, or excerpts of features. The material is read by the actors in the group, and then we provide feedback to the writer to help her/him develop the work further.
