Gran Premio NYC will be held on the same course as the long standing mass participation race "GFNY World Championship NYC”, the world’s most international cycling race with rider from over 90 countries.

Race week activities are centered around the George Washington Bridge and Fort Lee, New Jersey. The GFNY Village location is easily accessible to both New York City and the beautiful Hudson Valley. Group Rides, the Welcome Zone, Registration and Packet Pickup, NYC Bike Expo and the Bike Zone are all located in the GFNY Village. With the pro race being added, look out for autograph sessions, Q&A’s as well as group rides led by the pros themselves.

On race day, both GP NYC and GFNY start on the iconic George Washington Bridge, the world’s busiest bridge, which gets closed to traffic to provide all racers a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At dawn, GFNY cyclists take their places in their start corrals. The sunrise reveals the skyline of New York City to the south, and the picturesque and historic Hudson Valley to the north. The pros will enter the bridge just before their start on 6.45am, a mere 15 minutes before the mass participation race.

The course takes racers through the historic Palisades and up Route 9W. After the initial 10 miles in northern New Jersey, the race continues in New York State along tree lined roads, rolling hills, and fast flats, at times so close to the banks of the historic Hudson river that you can reach out and touch it.

The climbing begins in earnest at Mott Farm Road and shows why the race is often called “World’s Most Western Northern Classic". Gate Hill and Cheesecote are the named ones but there are several others. Winding through picturesque Rockland County, the course will then get back to the Palisades. With two miles to go, the final climb to the finish line in Fort Lee begins.

The entire finish village is alive with music, photos, podium ceremonies and a well-earned post-race meal for all racers. The Drink Stand, Pasta Party, BBQ and Beer and Wine Garden are open to cyclists, families and spectators and have food and drinks available for purchase.

All this makes GP NYC and GFNY an extraordinary, unforgettable bike party and the Mecca of GFNY.

Belgian team Lotto dstny is racing GP New York City

On May 19, 2024, the pro cyclists will start 15 minutes ahead of the GFNY mass participation race with thousands of riders.

The inaugural UCI 1.2 men elite pro race Gran Premio New York City will be held on May 19, 2024 on the same course and same day as the 12th annual mass participation race Michelob ULTRA GFNY World Championship NYC.

The teams

European Pro Tour teams with Grand Tour pedigree will lead the field, followed by Continental Pro teams from the Americas, Europe and Asia. Elite teams receiving wild cards will round out the field and get to measure themselves with the very best.

Team Lotto dstny (BEL)

Team Lotto dstny from Belgium is bringing a mix of Pro Tour and Continental Pro riders to New York City.

“GP New York City is a fantastic opportunity towards internationalization of our sport, which is very important for our sponsors and team,” says Sport Director Kurt Van de Wouwer. “Due to the busy race calendar, we will not be at the start with riders in a favorite role, but the Lotto Dstny Devo Team is very motivated to achieve a good result.”

“Big thanks to the Belgian National Lottery for sponsoring the trip of Team Lotto dstny to NYC” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “The team’s presence is adding to an already incredible inaugural edition of GP NYC with top teams from across the globe.”

An impressive field of participants!

I think we can only be proud of what we have achieved in recent weeks/months. Next week is the first edition of Gran Premio New York City.

As always, I am especially grateful for the opportunities that Uli and Lidia give me and for allowing me to share my knowledge of cycling.
