Qui Som? is an exceptional show that stayed with me years after I first experienced it.

Who are we? is of course an existential question and it is answered through a gorgeous, silly, powerful mix clay, bodies, laughter and vertigo. It is is as much a celebration as it is a performance.

It is also a show that blows the doors wide open to your new audience, quite literally. Talk to us about bringing it to the US.

We’re looking toward North American touring for Upswing’s spectacular Showdown and The Princess and the Pea in 2028.

In more than 30 years, Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala have become the Yo-Yo Mas of juggling — and Gandini Juggling , their philharmonic.

Sean Gandini choreographed the juggling for Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, seen at English National Opera , LA Opera and The Metropolitan Opera , where the production returns soon.

LIFE, created with the Merce Cunningham Trust and company members including Jennifer Goggans, brought juggling into conversation with Cunningham’s choreography.

And Smashed — Gandini’s international hit and homage to Pina Bausch — has been touring the world for more than a decade.

We’re touring Heka in May and Smashed in August–September, ahead of Akhnaten’s return to the Met in ’27.

More than 6,000 performances. 50 countries.

Opera houses, contemporary stages, museums, festivals and public spaces.

And beyond those audiences are millions of aspiring jugglers.

They’re in your backyard, your supermarket and your lecture hall: three oranges in the kitchen, tennis balls in the dorm, clubs in the park.

What if CODE became a platform for young people and communities across North America?

Justice in Motion created CODE in the UK: a visceral mix of parkour, physical theater and storytelling about young people, exploitation, crime and the choices that can change a life.

It has already toured more than 120 times in the UK and received five stars at the Edinburgh Festival.

We are beginning to explore what a North American version of CODE might look like, and what it could mean for local artists and communities to engage with the work in their own places.

Each production could reflect the place where it is made:
North American performers. Local communities. Local stories.

CODE can happen anywhere: a parking lot, schoolyard, rec center or park.

And what would an economic model look like for developing this kind of work in public space—one that supports artists, engages communities and makes the work sustainable?

We are interested in connecting with commissioning, presenting and producing partners who are curious about the possibilities.

At Western Arts Alliance (WAA) on September 9, CODE creator Anja Meinhardt Bruckmayer will join us for the WAA Pitch, 4–6 p.m.

How far does a performing arts center extend beyond its own walls? What do you do when you want to take the performing arts outdoors—but your theater is wedged into a downtown block with barely a patch of grass in sight?

The Flynn is a 1,400-seat historic theater tightly wedged into downtown Burlington—a Broadway touring house, concert venue, home for dance, theater, jazz, family programming and much more. Not exactly blessed with a big lawn out back. So the ED, Jay Wahl looked past the walls of the theater—and found a whole state outside them.

Five years ago, The Flynn started Playing Fields with just two school communities. This September, Plasticiens Volants with Unicycle Productions are about to descend on Vermont for 14 free performances in schoolyards, playing fields, parks and even the Vermont Statehouse lawn.

It has taken a village: years of work by Jay and The Flynn building relationships across Vermont; enormous investment by Plasticiens Volants over the preceding months—and much more once they arrive; and funders, sponsors, local partners and communities all doing their part.

That’s a conversation worth continuing at Western Arts Alliance next week. Yes, it’s complicated. Yes, it takes many hands and many kinds of support. But look what becomes possible when we look beyond our walls.
