Note: Almost half of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention graduated from Princeton. James Madison, the author of the first amendment, was a graduate of Princeton University. Dr. John Witherspoon, the only minister among the delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, taught Moral Philosophy at Princeton during this period. Authors from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which would have likely influenced the framer's and the first generation of American's views on salvation, universalism, tolerance, and conscience are also periodically selected for posting.
