On behalf of Florida’s 21st Congressional District, I owe the country an apology.
Our district sent Brian Mast to Washington.
And today, he serves as the Chair of the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee, one of the most powerful positions in Congress when it comes to questions of war and peace.
That position carries enormous responsibility.
The chair of that committee has the power to ask hard questions. To demand oversight. To push back when an administration rushes toward conflict.
Right now, the United States is facing exactly that kind of moment.
Congress recently debated whether to limit or approve further military action involving Iran, after a closely divided vote in the House over war powers authority.
In moments like this, the American people deserve leadership that takes the constitutional responsibility of Congress seriously.
But instead of challenging the march toward another Middle East war, we’ve seen the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee largely defend the administration’s approach and support expanding the operation.
That’s not oversight.
That’s rubber-stamping.
I’ve spent my career responding when things go wrong, when systems fail, when people are hurt, when leadership decisions have consequences.
I know what accountability looks like.
And I know what it doesn’t.
Congress is supposed to be a check on the executive branch, especially when American lives could be put in harm’s way.
The people of this district deserve a representative who will ask the hard questions before we send Americans into another war.
If you believe Washington needs leaders who will stand up, not fall in line, I’m asking for your support.
Join this campaign.
Let’s bring real accountability back to Congress.
