For Your GRAMMY® consideration. The Singing Horn. Classical Compendium Category.
THE SINGING HORN from classical hornist and folk vocal artist Mary Beth Orr bridges the divide between opposites — folk and classical, raw and refined, life and loss. The first five tracks of the album flow like a song cycle, interweaving folk and classical elements, and culminating in the haunting beauty of “Oh Death.” Later, we hear Good and True, inspired by the birthing songs of the Dagara Tribe as described by Sobonfu Somé. The works harness the synergy of horn and voice as vessels for storytelling. Anchored by heartfelt reflections on motherhood, love, and grief, THE SINGING HORN is an artistic testament to the bittersweet complexity of human experience.

Composer’s Voice, the groundbreaking television series spotlighting boundary-pushing artists in new music, is proud to feature the acclaimed Craig Hultgren in an upcoming episode. Known for his fearless embrace of contemporary repertoire and his ongoing mission to cultivate new works, Hultgren’s segment offers a compelling portrait of one of America’s most innovative cellists.

A tireless champion of living composers, Craig Hultgren has inspired the creation of more than 300 solo works for cello throughout his remarkable career. His artistry has been described by the New York Classical Review as “…played with impressive poise and sensitivity…” following his performance in Dorothy Hindman’s 2016 chamber music retrospective at Carnegie Hall.

Now residing just outside Decorah, Iowa, Hultgren is affectionately known as the farmer-cellist, cultivating both music and land in equal measure. His episode of Composer’s Voice weaves together performance footage, insightful commentary, and a showcase of compositions written especially for him—giving audiences a rare window into the artistry of a musician who redefines what it means to be a soloist in the 21st century.

Composer’s Voice, created by Robert Voisey and produced by Vox Novus, continues its mission to present dynamic, living voices in new music through short-format, high-impact episodes that bring performers and composers directly into the spotlight. Each episode is a curated mix of performance, dialogue, and discovery.

Episodes of Composer's Voice air its half-hour show every 2 weeks on Saturday at 2:00 PM EDT (UTC-4) on NYC cable access TV with Manhattan Neighborhood's Network channel 2.

Composer’s Voice presents “Simply, Patiently, Quiety” with Charlie Rauh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSDN0I_diQ0

Composer’s Voice speaks to guitarist Charlie Rauh about his new book “Simply, Patiently, Quiety” where he describes his compositional intention.

For guitarists seeking new repertoire or anyone drawn to the creative process, this collection offers a path back to curiosity and wonder.

Distilled to their essence, these pieces by guitarist-composer Charlie Rauh reveal how power resides in simplicity. Rauh’s compositions offer guitarists accessible yet profound pieces that embrace space and quiet as essential musical elements. In accompanying essays, Rauh shares the experiences that shaped these works – from encounters with children at airports to healing sessions with animals. Christina Rauh Fishburne's illustrations create a visual counterpoint to the notation, inviting players and listeners alike to experience music as a complete artistic conversation.

Simply, Patiently, Quietly includes notation and tablature for 32 original compositions.

"An inspired and multifaceted read on how to channel and access creativity of all sorts, and a great reminder to quiet the daily noise and get back to what matters."

—Mary Halvorson, guitarist and composer

"Simply, Patiently, Quietly is an eloquent exploration of what it means to listen and create slowly—a thoughtful meditation on the tension between the speed of our lives and the patience required for true listening. I immediately returned to page one to read it again."

—Courtney Hartman, guitarist and singer-songwriter
