🌲 Fifty years after Woodswoman, Anne LaBastille still has stories to tell.

Her cabin on Twitchell Lake made her famous. But Anne was also a wildlife ecologist, an international conservationist, an Adirondack Park Agency commissioner—and a woman who described herself as a “half hermit.”

In a recent episode of ADK Talks, we spoke with biographer Penny Harr about the remarkable woman behind the Woodswoman legend, including a few stories that didn't make it into her new biography.

On a dairy farm, problems don't wait until Monday. 🐄

Weather, equipment, livestock, markets—something always needs attention. And as North Country dairy farmer Blake Gendebien explains, making a living in agriculture means learning to think on your feet and find solutions.

One of his observations stuck with us: “We're farming with an open roof.”

🍁 It's Lake George's turn to shine!

While much of the Adirondacks has moved past peak, Lake George is reporting peak fall foliage this week, with brilliant oranges, yellows, and reds.

Here's the October 21 foliage update:

🍂 Lake George: 65% change, AT PEAK
🍁 Queensbury: 100%, past peak
🍂 Lake Placid: Nearly 100%, past peak
🍁 Tupper Lake: 100%, past peak
🍂 Benson: 100%, past peak, but gorgeous oak foliage remains

The fall show may be winding down in the High Peaks, but you can still find color farther south.

James Bond. In the Adirondacks?

You probably associate 007 with Monte Carlo, exotic beaches, and Aston Martins. Not Route 9.

But Ian Fleming's 1962 novel "The Spy Who Loved Me" takes Bond to the Lake George region, with references to Storytown, Gaslight Village, and other familiar landmarks.

Our latest ADK Talks guest, Ian Fleming scholar Frieda Toth, took that Adirondack connection one step further. She borrowed a motor scooter and retraced the heroine's journey from the Canadian border toward Lake George.

Along the way, she uncovered some fascinating clues about Fleming's Adirondacks—and a few surprises of her own.

Steve came up with this episode (he's been lobbying for it for years!), and he leads a conversation that blends James Bond, local history, and a rather unconventional road trip.

🍁 Peak foliage is moving south and east across the Adirondacks!

The High Peaks and much of the interior Adirondacks are now past peak, but the fall show isn't over.

🍂 Crown Point is reporting peak color at 95–100%.

🍁 Queensbury is at 80% and peak.

🍂 Ticonderoga is at 75%, ranging from peak to just past peak.

And Lake George? Just over 45% changed. More color is still to come!
