In my 6 months backpacking Africa as a female, solo traveler, I comforted, danced, spoke, cried, hitchhiked, hugged, climbed, yelled, swam, gave, worked, received, biked, analyzed, Kvetched, tried, taught, succeeded in some areas & failed in others, spent hours discussing racism & different world perspectives, cooked, drove, Shvitzed, explained, cultivated relationships, got my passport & wallet stolen, motorcycled for close to 100 hours, witnessed pure joy, read, sang, prayed, argued, learned so much about what makes me tick, spent time in the American Embassy, pushed myself in soso many capacities - physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc., missed people & events which was difficult, organized programs, made some painful decisions, questioned, shlepped, got bitten, hurt my leg, made others laugh, invited, defended, complimented, felt disappointed, exhausted, frustrated, ecstatic, frozen, confused, ravenous, free, & much else.

The goal is to not just have the memories in my heart, but to keep the lessons, interactions, knowledge, & views, in my personal day-to-day actions onwards.

It's my Jewish birthday, and I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you an overflow of goodness. Blessing you with health, success, lots of money, and a feeling of alignment. May your external smile always be a reflection of what's inside!

A deep connection to G-d, the significant humans in your life, the Torah, and yourself. You should be able to see how what you're doing helps make this world a better place, and feel surrounded with love & support.

Thanks for being here, letting your friends know about my business, hiring me, & supporting me in whichever capacity you have over this past year. Having you by my side helps make this wacky trip called life all the sweeter! 💚

P.S. I figured this is the perfect opportunity to get back on the social media bandwagon after 2+ years of not a single post on my feed. LOTS of content coming up;)

It’s not about being controversial, it’s about being candid. It’s about serving this community—to the best of our ability— with the knowledge and resources at our disposal. It’s about giving a platform to different voices and allowing our readers to reach nuanced conclusions.

Over the years, the N'shei Chabad Newsletter has discussed divorce, abuse, adoption, mental health, step-parenting, vaccines, addiction and more. What topic would you like us to talk about next?

Instastory takeovers for Premiere & some acting. Social media directing for Jewish content - just the way I like it 🎬⁣

Yesterday's job was a mix of photobooth set-up, interviews, & following along the grand episode viewing & panel. Thankful for the opportunities I get with my business, and excited for more possibilities of acting + Takeover gigs. 🎬⁣

My Solo Traveling Tips, continued from previous post:⁣

6) Don't feel weird declining something because it's lower than the standards you try to keep. Whether food/sleeping arrangements/swimming, whatever, you are the same you in solid ground as you are across the world. It's OK. People may even respect you more.⁣

7) Try to be a "yes" woman. Yes to new oppurtunities, yes to waking up at sunrise with others, yes to a waterfall, yes to sharing, yes to whatever you feel you can! Push yourself to be a part of things. You're creating memories to look back at forever.⁣

8) You may be taken more seriously+ get cheaper rates if you're part of a group. There are friends waiting to be made & honestly, you can do most of your plans with other Israeli groups to join with. Remember that THEY ARE IN THE SAME POSITION as you, you have your trip in common to discuss, and they may want you to hostel with them just as much as you want to. ⁣

9) BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE BEFORE. Oh my, it is so worth it even though G-d Willing will never be used. Don't even get me started on Strep that wouldn't go away/a sprained ankle, the works. You want to feel prepared.⁣

10) Pay attention to your surroundings, grab every moment, and LIVE IT UP!! You can be meeting people with awesome stories, sharing your view on the world, or learning about a new culture. Enjoy & be grateful:)) ⁣

^ These are what I wrote for my friend who was venturing out on a backpacking trip alone. They're based on my personal experience. Hope it's helpful in any way:) ⁣

My friend who co-runs asked me for advice on backpacking through an international trip alone. Shared on Jewish Girls Travel, and now here with you. Part 1/2 ⁣

My Solo Traveling Tips: ⁣

1) You are uber cool for doing this! Be proud of yourself. Not only is it not nebach to be eating/bussing/hosteling alone, but it's such an empowering feeling! Hashem's Protecting you, and you got this! ⁣

2) Solo traveling lends to being in vulnerable situations, and sometimes needing to ask for help from strangers/other backpackers/hostel owners/Shluchim, etc. Don't feel bad or embarrassed admitting that you're in a situation you're uncomfortable with or past a manageable point. Speak up and ask for help! People care and are so willing to lend a hand, seriously.⁣

3) NETWORK, BABEH!! Majority of my trips and rides, I try to start a conversation/find an Israeli/speak to a local, you never know where this will take you. Chabad houses are AMAZING for Kosher food, a place to relax, but very importantly- to meet other Jewish people! You can be chatting at midnight and decide to go hiking together the next day/take a 4 day roadtrip together/whatever! Just because you're "alone" as far as people you knew before, doesn't mean you have to be "lonely". ⁣

4) Keep your passport+important things on you, preferably in front of you, at all times (=hidden money belt). Don't leave them at any location/with people.⁣

5) ALWAYS have at least one person on earth know your location (Google Docs can constantly be updated even with no internet). It can be another backpacker, or sending a live Google Whatsapp location to your parent, or even the Chabad Rabbi knowing where your hostel is... At least one person should be able to realize if G-d Forbid no one sees you for a while/you committed to being somewhere and didn't show up, etc. SOMEONE should know! ⁣

Do you agree so far with my tips (next post will iyh have part #2)? Have you ever solo travelled before? Would you consider it? ⁣
