Happy to see this article pop up in Liquor.com.

As a lover of all things I’m always surprised by the strong reaction some people have to its pronounced aroma which is often mistaken for Licorice when in fact it’s Anise.

209 Lebanese Wine is a great resource for Lebanese Wines, sadly you can only order from them if you are local but I still enjoy their informative features on local wineries and indigenous grape.
I will go on the record though as disagreeing with their take on 'The Sobbaghieh' as a local grape, as by most accounts it is none other than Alicante Bouschet. Alicante Bouschet is a 'teinturier' grape. It is a rarity as it has both red skins AND red flesh. Perhaps we can call it a 'heritage' grape that have been planted in Lebanon for years and has adapted well to our Lebanese terroir like Cinsault for example, but to call it an indigenous grape is misleading.
