Day One of The 2022 Atlantic City Masters Xperience showcased the talent, and athleticism, of the aging athletes on the Masters Circuit. Coach Woody of Atlantic City Youth Sports stated,”This group is incredible. It’s hard to believe how well they move, and play at their age. I wish that I could move like that when I turn 60!” The two opening round games were highly contested, and the simmering summer heat permeated the gym, complicating matters. In game one it was the FRONTCOURT-MASTERS that sent the North Jersey Senior Citizens League All Stars packing to the Consolation game, by the score of 58-50. The first quarter was all NJ Seniors who established a commanding lead, only to see it evaporate like salt water taffy in the Atlantic City sun. The went from up 12 to down 12 by the mid second half. The Frontcourt Masters Trio of Herb Northrop, Bruce Burnett, and Reggie Steele sealed the deal with solid low post play and perimeter shooting.
So in game two it was Brooklyn Bridge 60 vs The New York Senior Citizens League All Stars. Both teams played with confidence and pride and the NYSCL attacked first with the dynamic perimeter shooting of Jon Dalzell. Dalzell dropped more 3-Pieces in this game than Colonel Sanders.
Brooklyn returned the favor with hustle, stellar gameplay,
and full court pressure by Earl James, George Blackett, and Lamont Long. The final score was 40-33. Yes…The NYSCL Stars advance to the ACXP Finals, and in the evening lights several players from opposing teams put their competitive souls aside, and grabbed a bite at the Hang Time Restaurant. Tomorrow’s games should be eventful, and Below the Rim, before we head to the AC Boardwalk for the Victory Parade. You should be here. Peace
