Ben Oden Memorial Cook Off All proceeds from the Ben Oden Memorial Cook Off will be used to help youth in the Montgomery County area.

Ben was passionate about helping others, and especially youth. Therefore, to honor his memory this event will be held annually.

The cook off is right around the corner! Only ONE week to get your recipes in order and that grill prepped.

We’ve had some contestants interested in entering more than one plate for specific categories. We’ve talked it over and we have decided you CAN have more than one (1) entry per category; as long as the entry fee of $20 is paid for the extra plate.

With that being said, we do $20 per category or $50 for all three (3). This will still apply. If you would like to enter all three categories and then add an extra entry, that will be $50 plus $20 per added entry. If you want to enter two (2) rib plates and one (1) wing plate, it will be $60.

So, if you can’t decide which rib rub you want to use, just enter them both! Or have too many vegetables from your garden that need gone? Grill them all, next Saturday! It gets them out of your fridge and helps us raise more money to support the youth of Montgomery County.

Every cook off we have a gun raffle and a 50/50 drawing. These tickets are only sold on the day of the event, but can be purchased up until the winners of the competition are announced and the auction starts!

For those of you who don’t want to cook, you can come out and watch the volleyball tournament going on hosted by the Jonesburg Lions Club, grab something to eat (also from the Jonesburg Lions Club), and purchase your tickets to win money and/or the gun!

Last year’s event was unavoidably cancelled last minute. We already had our shirts purchased and weren’t able to use them…..However, sometimes things just work out for the good. Those shirts are perfect for this year’s celebration of our country’s 250 year! With that being said, here are the shirts for purchase at this years event and the sponsors that make them possible. We are closing in on the big day! Here is some info regarding the entries.

Meat/vegetable:
These categories will be registered at 9:00. We ask that you do NOT pre marinate your items. You are welcome to marinate or season all items once they have been registered. This helps to keep an even playing field for all.
The grilled categories are:
Wings
Ribs
Any vegetable
It is $20/entry OR all three for $50

Prizes for all grilled categories include:
Trophy and $100 for 1st place
$75 for 2nd place
$50 for 3rd place

Pies:
All pies need to be entered by 12:00. Any homemade pie with a homemade crust is eligible. Registration is $10/entry.
If you would like to donate an extra pie for the auction that would AWESOME, but not required.
Prizes for pies include:
Trophy and $30 for 1st place
$20 for 2nd place
$10 for 3rd place

H***h:
These need to be entered by 4:00 and it is $10/entry.
This is a fun category. Bring your favorite concoction for us to judge.
And we do love to judge this one 🤪
This category has no prize money but you get a cool trophy and braggin rights !!!

*Any vegetable
They all need to be made on the grill that day.
*Don’t forget about your pie.
Any pie that is 💯 homemade is eligible. These can be made ahead of time and don’t need to be cooked on a grill.
*Get your mix on, and enter your favorite h***h concoction as well!

Jonesburg Lions Club graciously invited us to join their Party in the Park, for our cook off this year. We are SUPER excited to be able to have our event since we’ve had to take off the last couple of years, and this is going to be soo fun! Check out details for all events in the flyer. It is with deep sadness that we will have to cancel the cook off for this year. A family medical crisis has arisen and we have no choice but to cancel. We hate this so much, but we need to be with family at this time. I hope you all understand. We have already gotten a few auction items donated, and we will be doing something with them soon: silent auction, raffle, something along those lines. We will update you as soon as we can.

We are about a month away from this year’s event. We would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people for their generosity.

First of all the Bill Broz and Ron Broz families. With the passing of Bill and Ron the families chose to donate to our cause. They were both Ben’s uncles, so we’re sure they both would have been happy about this! Thank you so much Broz family!!

Next we would like to thank Independent Stave Mill for their very generous monetary donation. This helps us tremendously, and is greatly appreciated!

We have a great giving community and we feel very blessed to be able to use these donations to make a difference in the lives of children in our county. Thanks again!

September 27 will be here before you know it!
We are ordering trophies for this year’s winners . Make sure you are planning on cooking and snagging one of them! They will be awesome as always.

*there has been a change of plans, and there will not be a co****le tournament after all.
HOWEVER , we are still planning on having a local talent providing music part of the day. You won’t want to miss it!

*Any vegetable side (can be anything that contains a vegetable cooked on your grill)

*Any Pie (will need two of the same pies - one for judging and the other will be auctioned off)

Last but not least,

*H***h (anything that has alcohol in it - not a bartender? No worries, neither are we! So dont let that hold you back from trying something new)

Also, this year we will have a local resident playing live music and a corn hole tournament that is being put on by the local Kiwanis organization!

Will be posting updates in the coming weeks leading up to the day, including information on how to sign up for the corn hole tournament.
