Meet Richard “Rich” McCandlish — a lifelong explorer of the deep forests of southeastern Ohio, and one of the most passionate Bigfoot researchers in the region. For over 53 years, Rich has devoted his life to tracking, documenting, and decoding mysterious footprints, strange screams, and unexplained lights in the woods.

He’s known for being able to “read Wood Talk” — the subtle language of the forest that can guide you toward tracks, signs, or hidden presence.
Rich is a disabled U.S. Army veteran, having served six years during the Cold War era.
His fieldwork isn’t just storytelling — he’s co-author of works featuring casts and photos of alleged Bigfoot activity (like a 24-inch cast included in Supernatural Cryptids: Return of the Nephilim).
He’s often featured in podcasts, cryptid books, and local reports — and is one of the driving forces behind the Nelsonville Bigfoot Festival.
