Minor Threat / Minor Threat / Filler

Some songs don’t introduce you to a genre.
They throw you straight into it.

“Filler” is one of those songs. Fast, urgent, and over almost as quickly as it starts, but the impact sticks with you.

Joseph put it best:

“The first time I heard Filler was my introduction into hardcore. The first chord rings out like a battle cry, the drum roll builds up, and when it kicks in it felt like every member of the band was giving it everything they’ve got. That was very hook, line, and sinker to me. Fu***ng charge into battle about something you care about and give it all you’ve got.”

Social Distortion / White Light White Heat White Trash / Don’t Drag Me Down

I’ve always hated racist bu****it. Simple as that. This song hit me early because it wasn’t waving a flag or preaching, it was drawing a line. You can love where you’re from and still refuse to be dragged into hate. That’s what this one feels like to me. And the older I get, the more relevant it sounds.

The Su***de Machines / Destruction by Definition (1996) / New Girl

For me this record wasn’t about them saving ska or leading me into hardcore.
Honestly it wasn’t even about how insane the drums are the whole album.

It was a moment.

These lyrics gave me just enough courage to try becoming a lady killer for about… a week.

Spoiler alert
I was never a lady killer
and never even remotely close to a Casanova

But for a minute this song had me believing otherwise
and that’s why it stuck

First time I heard this wasn’t the record, it was the version on I Heard They Suck Live. I remember thinking… yeah ok, they definitely don’t suck.

After seeing them a few times I started wondering if that album title was maybe part of the bit. Very Kiss Alive energy. Either way, it worked.

This song absolutely changed my life.
