It was one year ago that we discovered the passing of our dear friend and creative force, Phil Fox.

His was an enormous life in not only the prolificness of his creativity, but most remarkably in the way that his life touched others. His name remains on our lips and his music fills the air. He is so dearly missed.

In addition to keeping Phil's name alive, our mission at FOXFEST for the ARTS is to carry on Phil's incredible legacy the best that we can by encouraging, inspiring, and amplifying the arts and artists.

In the past year we have held a Fresh Tunes music tribute and thrown an incredible Festival of original music, art, and poetry. We have staged 2 plays, and have cast and held our first read through for a 3rd. We asked the Myrtle Beach City Council to name the stage in Nance Plaza for him and they did, with Mayor Mark Kruea even showing up to dedicate the stage at the inaugural FOXFEST for the ARTS Music & Art Festival at Nance Plaza

The original music showcase, Fresh Tunes at Fresh Brewed Coffee House, that was founded by Phil just wrapped its season with Heather Lee Begley as host, and Heather is currently scheduling acts for the next season that kicks off in October.

Drew Jacobs is already planning the acts for next spring's FOXFEST for the ARTS Music & Arts festival and Graciana Love has coordinated with Coastal High School to make sure the next generation of artists are represented at the festival.

In addition to writing another amazing play called The Road to Enlightenment to be staged in October, Alyson McKellar Clardy is already creating props for it with the help of Reuben Long, while working on music with Brian Roessler and Garrett Johnson.

Keith Alan Jacobs is at the ready with all of our printing needs and Brian McKenzie is always ready to lend a hand in any way that's needed.

It is our firmly held belief at FOXFEST for the Arts that the best ways to honor Phil and his memory are to create, to encourage others to create, and to get those creations out into the world!

Let's make sh*t happen, Y'all!

MAY THE 4th BE WITH YOU...

Remembering Phillip James Fox and the enormous legacy of encouragement and inspiration he left behind. He was so incredibly special to so many that his name passes through the lips of countless of us on a daily basis. He was irreplaceable.

This past Saturday Fresh Tunes at Fresh Brewed wrapped up its first season without Phil. It was a wonderful (an emotional evening). Follow the YouTube link at the bottom of this post for the performance of a very special song for Phil. Fresh Tunes will return to Fresh Brewed for a new season in October

We at FOXFEST for the ARTS have been busy planning our next play, The Road to Enlightenment, written by Alyson McKellar Clardy. It will be staged at Fresh Brewed Coffee House. on October 23rd & 24th. We are also already planning the next Music & Arts Festival for next March so stay tuned!

Please raise a glass of Jameson (or other beverage) today to toast our dear departed friend, and share this Irish Blessing:

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Happy Birthday, Phil. We sure do miss you...

I don't know where to start.πŸ₯Ή

I have been in absolute awe of the response to our inaugural FOXFEST for the ARTS Music & Art Festival at Nance Plaza in honor of the amazing Philip James Fox! It was a wonderous day, full of music, poetry, visual arts, creativity, and connection!

I'll start by thanking my partners in creativity:

Co-founder and Music Director, Drew Jacobs, who put together a stellar lineup of musicians for the day, and spent many evenings pouring his heart and soul into rehearsing with the other members of the Phil Fox & Wicked Gift Tribute band.

Co-founder and Theater & Arts Director, Alyson McKellar Clardy, who oversaw and emceed our theater production, GODTIME, handled the lion's share of social media posting, created the beautiful Art Garden entry piece, and put together a moving retrospective of Phil's theater productions, among other things.

Board Member, Keith Jacobs of Coharie Ventures, who either donated, or provided at cost, the printing for the festival, coordinated the merch printing, photographed the festival, and was instrumental in drumming up support for the naming of the Philip James Fox Stage.

Board Member, Graciana Love of Solaris Arts Collective, who pulled together, managed and hosted the Art Garden, and acted as liaison with Coastal High School and other young artists.

Board Member and one-time Wicked Gift band member, Reuben Long, who not only put together the stage, sound & lighting for the theatrical production of GODTIME, but also filmed the second showing of it after playing drums for the Phil Fox & Wicked Gift Tribute band and overseeing festival filming.

Board Member and pillar of the Myrtle Beach creative community, Brian Roessler, who kicked off the festival with a wonderful set of original music, and often provided comic relief.

Thank you to the volunteers who really came through helping with set up, break down, and holding down merch:
Melanie Turner (an absolute superstar - the Maven of Merch!)
Mark Adcock
Joey Clardy
Rita Rose
Sergey "Winter" Kitchenko
Daniel Begley

Special thanks to Kris Dumas of the Conscious Soul Festival πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ April who not only loaned us tents, but showed up like an angel to help us set up and tear down.

Enormous thanks to Jesse Mosel for her amazing graphic design work on everything from banners, posters & t-shirts to stickers, flyers & play programs. It was a mountain of work in a short amount of time.

Special Thanks to Dan McGraw for live painting and giving others the opportunity to express their creativity.

Special Thanks to the Mayor of Myrtle Beach, Mark Kruea, for coming to officially dedicate the stage "now and forever" to Philip James Fox and hang out with us! Thanks to the other members of the Myrtle Beach Council who unanimously voted in favor of the naming.

You guys, this is going to be one for the history books! You simply must be there to witness Phil's songs being performed on Phil's stage. I'm pretty sure my eyes will be leaking, but maybe I'll take a page out of Phil's playbook and wear my sunglasses the whole time...
