Chicken is doing just ok. We have been struggling with the discharge rerouting itself through her tear gland and it’s messy and we have been trying to keep the eye healthy. She is on eyedrops, a topical and antibiotics. We have changed medications a few times. I don’t have any recent pictures of her that don’t look goobery, because she is constantly goobery. It’s constant cleaning though the day. I really don’t like to post the bad, theres just enough of that on everyone’s feed, so here’s one of my favorites of her as a baby ❤️

I used to have this pinned, but FB keeps changing things and I figured I would repost for anyone who doesn’t know about Miss Chicken. She has Chinal Atresia. The image is from a scan we had done in 2022 (I think?) and shows how the bones in her face had grown incorrectly. She has no connection in her sinuses on the right side (where it gets infected often). She also has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, but its nott too bad, she just high steps and isn’t the best aim when pouncing at things.

We still have the three fosters, but they’re half grown now. They’re beautiful boys, and they have all been neutered. We have been working with a local rescue to get them homes and they will hopefully get adopted through Petfinder. The rescue gets the adoption fees to help with their efforts and we will get a little more room in the house 😂

I haven’t posted in awhile. Honestly I have been wanting to wait until Miss Chicken was looking better, but I’m starting to think this is the new norm for us. He nose keeps filling with pus. Our vet had us try 2 courses of clavamox and it cleared up but when she’s off the antibiotics it comes right back. We did send a sample off and it didn’t come back as anything unusual. I have to squish it out daily like we did at the vet, it’s gross and she hates it but she definitely feels better afterwards. I looked into surgery and the only surgeon I could find who had experience with this was all the way across the states in NY. They can place a tube through the bone to create the opening that she should have on that side, but then theres the chance of the bone growing back over it. And I would somehow have to get her all the way over there to do it. I am waiting on a call back to see if he has any other ideas, maybe a different antibiotic, I don’t know. I just don’t know what else to do besides keep working with my vet and crossing my fingers. She’s otherwise happy and onery as ever. We’re still here ❤️

Life has been a whirlwind these past two weeks!

First, my sweet pup Osa had to make an emergency vet visit. She wasn’t acting like herself, and after some tests, we discovered she has a massive tumor on her spleen. Now we’re saving up for surgery to have it removed. It’s expensive and nerve-wracking, but she’s been an amazing little helper with raising all the kittens over the years. She’s the sweetest soul, and we’re doing everything we can to take care of her. I’ve been making bracelets and selling at a discount to try and raise quick funds… but I had to take a 3 day break…

I swallowed a wasp. Yep, you read that right. How, you ask? I left a drink outside, didn’t check the straw, and in a bizarre knee-jerk reaction, I swallowed the mystery bug rather than spitting it out. Genius, right? I realized my mistake when it started stinging its way down my throat. I’ve had bad reactions to wasp stings before, once, my hand swelled up to my elbow like a latex glove water balloon. Not a fun time. So, I popped some Benadryl and hightailed it to the ER when the numbness kicked in. The next three days were odd, my skin hurt to the touch, my throat swelled up on one side (whick looked fantastic 🙃) , and the headache... oof.

After that little adventure, I decided to take on the kitchen floor. Turns out the installers didn’t leave enough gap between the floor and the walls, and with a floating floor, that’s a big no-no. Without that gap, the joints can snap, and the whole thing could fail. Luckily, we had some extra flooring left over, so I got to work fixing it. Definitely not the highlight of my week.

In other news, my attempt at quitting 🚬? Still a work in progress. I did well for a few days and have cut back, but I haven’t fully kicked the habit yet.

And just when I thought things couldn’t get crazier, when I went to the store yesterday the cat distribution system decided I needed three sickly kittens more than coffee filters. After a stint in the cage out back, they’ve taken over the bathroom. They’re on eye meds, and I’ll be starting them on antibiotics soon. Hopefully, we can find them homes, but for now, they’re here. Despite their fever coats, they’re cute as can be and are finally coming out of hiding for some pets.

I swear, if my life were a TV show, everyone would say it’s way too over the top…

It’s all funny in a “what could possibly go wrong now?” Kinda way… But hey, I’m not crazy… probably. If I didn’t laugh about it, I’d definitely cry.

Always check your straws! And if you forget and slurp up a bug, for Petes sake spit it out!

🙃

Post are probably going to be sporadic for another week…
I quit ci******es. And it’s definitely not easy. So I am keeping busy and getting things done around the house that have needed done for a while. So although I may have forgotten to post Miss Chicken, she has been her the whole way, following and biting my toes. Today I defrosted the refrigerator, baked banana bread and chocolate chip cookies, and pulled the dishwasher out so I can fix the kitchen floor….
I keep busy, and I get through! I should be about over the hardest part, and then I can slow down and get back to posting 🥰
