October is a great month to see (or rewatch) Rooted: Stories from Minnesota’s Farming Future. With three showings throughout the Twin Cities metro this month, we’d love to have you join us for one or all.

Thanks to the partners bringing Rooted to screens across the state: The Good Acre, Animales Barbeque Co. and The Food Group

What stories are going to shape Minnesota’s next decade?

Minnesotans stories have always shaped our art, food, climate, and culture. Join us at The Great Northern’s 10th Anniversary Preview Event to explore why local stories matter with Onesmus Mutio, a farmer featured in Rooted: Stories from Minnesota’s Farming Future, Nell Lawren-Wareham, Deputy Director of Film for Explore Minnesota, and Jovan C. Speller Rebollar, Executive Director of The Great Northern.

In this panel conversation, they’ll share their perspectives on how we can ensure the voices of all Minnesotans are seen and heard.

Join us this Thursday for the conversation alongside a screening of Rooted, remarks from TGN Board Member Andrew Zimmern, and more at The Fitzgerald Theater. Tickets at the link in bio.

We’ve always been about celebrating the ways winter brings us together. At the 2019 festival, the fat tire bike community ride and pond hockey tournament players came together during this snowy moment.

As we celebrate 10 winters this year, we’re turning back the page to remember the many ways this community winters.

Missed seeing Rooted at it’s sold-out premiere this spring?

We’re bring it to St. Paul with a viewing at The Fitzgerald Theater on October 1, as part of our 10th anniversary preview event.

Minneapolis illustrator and fiber artist Taylor Tinkman is the featured designer of our 2027 festival tote bag. Based out of the Longfellow neighborhood, she specializes in colorful editorial work that often features plants, animals, food, and nature.

When she isn’t drawing or cooking, you can probably find her somewhere cozy with a book, swimming in a lake, or hiking in the woods with her dog, Cricket.

Get your first look at Taylor’s design at our 10th Anniversary Preview Event on 10/1, where totes will be available for purchase before they hit the festival merch stand this winter.

FLASH SALE: 24 HOURS ONLY
Grab your ticket to the 10th Anniversary Preview Event in the next 24 hours and we’ll hook you up with a free tote bag. Pick yours up at the merch counter when you walk into the Fitzgerald Theater. Offer ends Friday September 18th at 2 PM.

Winter isn’t just a season that happens to you. It’s an action you can take.

The Great Northern’s Manager of Development and Climate Partnerships Charly Frisk took us to visit her happy place, a 22-acre urban farm in the heart of Saint Paul, to share how she draws winter inspiration from her work with gardening and seed saving.

Why do you winter?
