NOMINEE SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY-DR. NNEKA ONUMA — OWNER & CAKE DESIGNER OF SWEET HEAVEN BY NNE!

Dr. Nneka Onuma is the talented baker, cake designer, and stylist behind Sweet Heaven by Nne, a Twin Cities-based bakery specializing in unique, custom-designed cakes, desserts, and treats.

Her passion began in high school, when she decorated ice-cream cakes while working at a local Dairy Queen. Years later, after completing graduate school, she took a Wilton cake-decorating class — and that experience reignited her passion for turning cakes into works of art.

In January 2021, Nneka launched Sweet Heaven by Nne during the pandemic, transforming her creativity and growing cake-design skills into a business. Today, the bakery serves the Twin Cities metro area and creates custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, celebrations, milestones, and special occasions.

Her creations go beyond traditional cakes.

Sweet Heaven by Nne also offers cookies, cake pops, gem and geo hearts, desserts, and other specialty treats, giving clients the opportunity to celebrate life's special moments with something uniquely designed for them.

Through her Sweet Heaven Minnesota project, she has used cake as a canvas to celebrate the state she calls home — creating artistic cake replicas inspired by Minnesota landmarks, including the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture in Minneapolis and the Carlitos Brown statue in St. Paul.

It represents the ability to take a skill developed over time and turn it into something that brings people together, creates memorable experiences, and celebrates community.

Nneka also brings an impressive professional and educational background to her entrepreneurial journey. She holds a PhD in multidisciplinary human services and has professional experience focused on community engagement and supporting families, youth, and vulnerable communities

NOMINEE SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY-ALISHA FAGAN ,COACH OF THE TWIN CITIES MASQUERADES DANCE TEAM!

Alisha Fagan is the Coach behind the Twin Cities Masquerades Dance Team, helping young dancers develop their skills while creating opportunities for them to perform, compete, build confidence, and represent their community.

The Twin Cities Masquerades have taken their talents beyond the practice room, performing at community events and participating in dance and drill competitions. The team has represented Minneapolis at competitions featuring teams from places including Omaha, Nebraska, and Zion, Illinois.

And the impact of a coach goes far beyond teaching choreography.

A great coach helps young people understand the importance of commitment, preparation, teamwork, confidence, discipline, and believing in themselves.

One public message from a dance family specifically recognized Coach Alisha Fagan and the Twin Cities Masquerades, celebrating the team's passion, confidence, and dedication while competing out of state.

The Twin Cities Masquerades have also been part of community celebrations, including performances at a Minneapolis-area Juneteenth block party focused on Black community, economic wellness, and safety.

That is what makes community-based youth programs so important.

They give young people a place to belong, express themselves, build friendships, discover their talents, and develop skills that can follow them throughout life.

Alluring Beads By LaRose has been building its presence in the Minnesota small-business community, including participating in local events and marketplaces. The business joined Eventeny in 2024 and is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The brand's online storefront was established in 2021, creating an additional platform for customers to discover and shop its products.

At the heart of a creative business like this is the ability to turn beads, colors, textures, and design ideas into pieces that allow people to express themselves.

And that is what makes small businesses so important.

NOMINEE SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY-JACELYN P. JOHNSON OF JAHPENÉE PRODUCTIONS!

Jacelyn P. Johnson is the Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of JahPenée Productions, a full-service creative, casting, film, television, and music production company with roots in Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

JahPenée Productions focuses on developing culturally rich stories while creating opportunities for underrepresented voices and independent creatives across film, television, music, live events, and other forms of media. The company provides services ranging from casting and creative consulting to full-scale production and production management.

Her creative work includes film, television, theater, music, documentaries, casting, and live events. Some of her notable projects include FE**SH: The Senator & The Ramp, The Mask, WeNext Artists, We Wear The Mask, and the Tribute to Motown musical production.

FE**SH: The Senator & The Ramp — Jacelyn served as writer/director and received a 2022 Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board for the project. The film later received recognition at film festivals, including a Best Short award at the Los Angeles Short Film Awards.

The Mask — Jacelyn served as director, producer, and casting director on the television project.

WeNext Artists — she helped bring attention to the stories and music of an underrepresented community on the East Side of Saint Paul through documentary storytelling.

42Music — through JahPenée Productions, Jacelyn also developed 42Music Label & Publishing, supporting independent music and artists, including Afrofusion artist BERI.

She has also continued to build her presence in Minnesota's film and television community, including service on the Minnesota Film & TV Board of Directors and leadership work focused on creating programming and opportunities for underrepresented creatives.
