I am so pleased to share that we donated $3,380 to the Norma Pfriem Angel Fund. I think Karen would be so pleased with this. Huge thanks for everyone who donated and helped out!

We will do an annual donation after the Thanksgiving 5K- I will post about it here and anyone can make donations at that time. ❤️

Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday we ran the first annual Karen O’Neil 5K. It was a wonderful run and it’s always followed by a brunch. We ran, ate, drank, and laughed a ton which is exactly what Karen would have wanted in an event that honored her. She was an incredible person, friend, wife, mother, all around human being and I miss her every day.

When I contacted Norma Pfriem recently to finalize where the donation would go the woman I spoke to said-“I remember Karen well. She was an absolutely lovely person and a favorite here at the breast center (even though we are not supposed to have favorites).” The donation to their Angel Fund will be over $3,000. This money will help women going through breast cancer treatment with services not covered by insurance. I will get this donation out in the next week so it is not too late if you would like to Venmo me -Katz-18.

I wanted to reach out and update everyone about the status of the 5K. There have been COVID cancellations and delays and after a lot of thought and talking to Sean and the girls we have decided not to go forward with the race.

I have collected money from generous donors and sponsors. All of this will be donated to the Norma Phrieme Breast Center in Karen’s name (all donors have been notified of this change and refunds were offered).

I organize a neighborhood 5K on Thanksgiving every year that Karen had done in the past. Below is a picture from the last one Karen did. I decided we will name that race after her and will make race shirts. Every year we will have an optional race fee so we can continue to raise money and donate in her name to this charity annually.

We are accepting donations to add to what we have collected so far. If you would like to donate, please comment here and I will reach out.

We are so sad that we will not all be getting together tomorrow to run and celebrate the life of an amazing woman. But.... we are already working on plans for next year and will post here as we firm up dates. Thank you everyone for your continued support. Be well!

Well- we all knew it was coming even though I have been putting off making it official- the race is postponed! We are rescheduling for this time next year! We really want to be able to come together, run and celebrate Karen’s life!

I am finalizing a date with the town and working with Lightbox the run sign up company. I am hoping they can roll registered runners over to the new date. Anyone wishing for a refund can contact me and I will be happy to do that. All sponsorships will remain and we will continue to raise sponsorship money to donate to Norma Pfeiem.

Thank you to Tammy Russo for her sponsorship in the name of John “Choose Happy” Russo. Tammy is someone who always pays it foward. A few years ago I nominated Karen for a grant from Tammy’s foundation the The JFR Jr. Foundation, which raises money in memory of her husband John for people going through treatment for significant illness. They awarded a grant to Karen and it was the story about John and Tammy’s passion for giving back after such adversity that inspired Karen to ask me to do something similar in her name and that’s when the idea for this race was born. So this donation is particularly meaningful. Thanks Tammy 😘
