Two SBPLI FLL Practice Tournaments will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Ronkonkoma Middle School, in Ronkonkoma, New York.

*The morning (AM) tournament will run from approximately 7:00 am to 11:30 am

*The afternoon (PM) tournament will run from approximately 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm

The Practice Tournament is more informal than the official tournaments. There is no project, technical or core values judging at this event - this is ONLY for competitive robot practice on the playing fields. All levels of performance are anticipated! This will be an opportunity to get help with building and programming your robot. Feel free to talk with other teams and ask for help during the day. Since last year’s “tutorial” assistance was received with much enthusiasm, we will again have our team of “experts” to mingle with the teams and be available for specific help with all aspects of the robot. You will receive an amazing amount of information.

Please note that space is limited, so you need to register as soon as you can when registration opens. Registration will open at 8:00 am on Monday, November 3rd, and will close on Wednesday, November 26th or sooner if all the slots are filled. You can only register for one practice tournament.

Send an email to [email protected] with your TEAM NUMBER, your TEAM NAME as you would like it listed in the day’s program, and the Coach’s name. You MUST also note whether or not you are a rookie team. More details to come. See you there!

The SBPLI Qualifying Tournaments are fast approaching! By now you should have been notified as to which of the 3 qualifier sessions to which your team has been assigned on Saturday, Feb 1 or Sunday Feb 2.

Location:
Central Islip High School
85 Wheeler Rd.
Central Islip, NY 11722

Directions and Parking
Take the LIE to Exit 56. Go South and bear left at the fork onto Wheeler Road. Continue .8 miles. High School will be on the left, but pass the High School, turn left at the traffic light into the parking lot. The event entrance will be at the rear of the building.

You Need to Bring

1. Consent forms - The consent forms that you submitted for the Practice Tournament are on file and you do not need to submit new ones unless you have a team member participating who could not be at the Practice Tournament. Of course, those teams that did not participate in the Practice Tournament need to bring consent forms for all team members (including adult mentors).

2. Team Introduction Form - Please complete the form previously provided and bring three copies of it with you.

3. Three team photos with team members & coaches names written on the back. Staple each photo to a Team Intro form, please. Teams will carry one copy of the Intro form and photo with them to each judging session.

4. Any item needed for research presentations (AV equipment) or technical judging (programming documentation.)

5. Your Gracious Professionalism - Remember that all team members, Coaches and Mentors are being judged throughout the day!

You’ll Probably Want to Bring

1. Laptop with charged battery. (Teams may be inspired to try new solutions or improve old ones.) Remember to back up your programs to more than one place.

2. Extra LEGO parts including batteries & chargers.

3. Money for food and raffles.

4. LEGOS or DUPLOS to donate to LEGOs FOR FUN. This is the 10th year that we have supported the FIRST tradition of giving back to the community. Previously, we have donated new & used LEGOs to Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Long Island Adolescent and Family Services, the Ronald McDonald House and Toys for Hope.

5. A good timepiece so that your team doesn’t miss any assigned events. Teams are expected to report to their assigned sessions on time.

Respect the site and our hosts, Central Islip School District.

1. Wear sneakers.
2. No food or beverages in gym.
3. No smoking or illegal substances on campus.
4. No running or profanity.
5. Please disable all Bluetooth devices and refrain from flash photography as they may interfere with robot performance.

You Will Find At the Competition

1. Food! Delicious & reasonably priced food will be sold all day. Your purchases will help defray the costs incurred by the Central Islip School District. We ask that you not bring in outside food and remember that FOOD OR BEVERAGES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE GYM.

2. Raffles! Guess the number of LEGOS in the jar and other raffles will be held.

3. Battery Charging Station - Space is limited so everyone’s cooperation is appreciated!

4. Practice Tables - There will be practice tables set up with a queuing area. Do not bring your own field setup. We will just ask you to pack it up. No practice mats will be allowed in any part of the site.

5. Pit Area - Each team will be assigned to one half of a cafeteria table.

6. Competition Area - Four double field setups will be there. Teams will be asked to queue up outside the competition area and then be admitted to their spot. There will not be lights setup above tables, we will be using the gym's lighting. You will have time to adjust your sensors when you arrive and before each match as part of your set-up time.

7. Robots will be inspected during queuing.

Referees & Mission Scoring

Team members will review and initial their score sheets with the Referees before they leave the game table. Team drivers need to know the mission rules and scoring. Encourage team members to speak up politely before leaving the table about any questions with the score. Any scoring issues will be resolved by the Head Referee, and his decisions are final. Video will not be used for review purposes.

Make sure your team has reviewed the technical updates on the FLL website: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/media/twocol.aspx?id=268

Schedule for the Days
