The 10k was our largest run field this year at Rock Monster. 4/5 of the podium were FSX regulars, with 2/5 being FSX Champions.

1. Shea Devine is new to our little world. He had the Fast Boiz™️ vibe, which just means Theo, Shane, and Greg missed a potential new teammate. Someone get Shea in touch with the Boiz and make sure he comes to Fifth Street Cross.
2. Devan Bicher is the other fast man at Fifth Street RunSpringa this season alongside Patrick Brocious, and he found himself on the podium in the 10k
3. but just behind him was Nancy Oswald. Nancy is the first woman to ever finish on the podium of our Fifth Street 'Cross overall podium, and she showed that maybe we need to give her some more 10ks on the regular.
4. David Ribardo, FSX sponsor, AND a 2024 Double Cross Champion AND 1st place finisher in BOTH Double Cross and the 5k series at FSX in 2025.
5. And then someone let this guy, Alex Franko, onto the podium. The owner of Bright Path Brewing sure has a funny way of showing, "I dunno if I'm going to run today."

We took notes on this, and we're going to offer a stand-alone 10k at Fifth Street Summer Camp in August, which will be 4 laps of that course.

5k Rock Monster had a number of Fifth Street Cross regulars in the mix.

1. Patrick Broscious is FAST this year, winning Fifth Street RunSpringa races and now notching his Rock Monster win.
2. Bill Folmar did his first trail run ever. He had to go to Fleet Feet on Saturday night to get shoes. The Twisted Pita Food Truck wrap was his main motivation.
3. Del Hawbaker (traded bibs with Levi. Don't worry, they do this every week at FSX) had an absolute SPRINT FINISH against
4. Lisa Kerchner. I mean, we might have to get a high-speed camera for the 5k results next year!
5. And in 5th is Maxine Ting, daughter of FSX regular, Simon.

As with all our FSX events, we ran an overall podium that includes all genders. That put two women on the overall results for the 5k, which we love.

The Ultra Rock Relay was a success for year one!

2x teams of three runners raced across 100km of trail together in one of the most exciting races of the day. The teams traded the lead multiple times, but it was the Cruisin' Cousins team that dropped the hammer on lap 6 of 7 to gap team NBD when their weakest runner was on course. This savage attack was reminiscent of the pro bike races that inspired this running format, and for that, we're stoked. Team NBD did not give up, putting their two strongest runners on course for a final sprint to the line. They did bring back time on the Cruisin' Cousins, but Team NBD finished just 9 minutes down after nearly 5 hours of racing.

Format Refresher: A team of three must have one runner in the pit zone at all times. The two runners on the course must run together the entire time. All runners must sit out at least one lap during the competition.

Both teams employed an even 5-5-4 strategy, in which their two strongest runners each ran 5 laps, and their third member ran 4 laps total. The timing of when those strong and weak runners were on course differed, giving us the thrilling race to the finish.

We love this format. It'll definitely be part of our 2027 Rock Monster, and we may try to do it again before then.

"As a PICL family, this is the closest to a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Mountain Biking race we have ever felt in the off-season. We will definitely be back next year!" - Rider Survey feedback response

Awesome to see all the PICL riders out this weekend for Rock Monster. Creating a Pitzone atmosphere and plenty of activities for all members of a PICL family to do when they're not on course were core tenets of the event. We're stoked to hear that it worked well.

Big thanks to Kitli Kids for putting in the time for the kids' zones at the pump track and the single track!

FSX Rock Monster Marathon photos are up!

Epic days for so many people on Sunday. From 5k-ers doing their first run to the Marathon and Ultra Relay runners tackling the course for 5+ hours. The overall summary is the course is very runnable. Times were about as fast as we predicted, and all the runners said it features a nice mixture of fast stride sections and choppier technical sections. That's a perfect trail run, so we're stoked to hear that feedback.
