Under His Providence: A Prayer Guide for America’s 250th launched this week with Week 1: Humility and Repentance.

As we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary, the Lord has laid it on my heart to call us back to Scripture and prayer. This first week we are focusing on what Scripture shows us is always the starting place for renewal: humble repentance before a holy God.

We will walk slowly through passages like Psalm 106, Isaiah 1, Daniel 9, and Psalm 51 — remembering God’s goodness, confessing our sin, and asking Him to create clean hearts within us.

My prayer is that this week would not be about pointing fingers at others, but about allowing God’s Word to search our own hearts. Revival begins with God’s people returning to Him.

Today is Patriots’ Day — a day to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who stood for liberty on April 19, 1775, at Lexington and Concord.

As we reflect on the birth of American freedom, I’m thankful for the profound influence of the gospel in that era. Men like:
• George Washington — who led with prayerful dependence on divine providence
• Patrick Henry — whose fiery defense of liberty was rooted in biblical conviction
• George Whitefield — the great evangelist of the First Great Awakening whose preaching stirred hearts across the colonies and helped lay a spiritual foundation for the fight for freedom and the countless ordinary Christian minutemen — farmers and church members who answered the call to defend their homes and God-given rights.

At the center of it all stands the open Word of God — living, active, and sharper than any sword. True liberty begins in the heart transformed by Christ.

May we, as believers today, seek first the Kingdom of God and pray earnestly for revival in our land, just as many did in the days leading to our nation’s founding.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12)
