Markleville Jamboree & Events Information about town events and Annual Jamboree the first weekend of August Ages 5-12 years in the Tractor area shelter house. Games begin at 6:30PM.

Stop by Information Booth- Raffle tickets, Jamboree Schedules will be available.
-5:00PM though 12 noon Saturday-Place Entries in the ART and Crafts SHOW at the info booth-Do you make pottery, crafts, or Paint pictures, sew? Any age can enter, people’s choice vote. Place a tag on the on your piece with your name and phone number, and whether you would like your item returned or donate it. Will be having a sale of items donated on Saturday at 5:45 after winners are announced, monies go into our Jamboree fund. Art and Crafts Show Display and People’s Choice voting will be by Info booth in Shelter house.
-5:00- though 12:00 noon Saturday-Sign up at info booth for PET PRINCE/PRINCESS CONTEST!! To enter make and bring a decorative container for money votes, with your pets’ picture! Indicate whether your pet is a boy or girl. Any size, any age, any type of pet can enter! Prince/Princess Winners announced on Stage Saturday August 7th at 5:30PM after the PET PARADE. (Winners are determined by money vote amounts. All monies go back into the Jamboree fund.) Saturday 6th-5:00PM Pet Prince/Princess Parade! Bring your pet or decorative entry and Parade across the stage and introduce them. Costumes optional.

EVENT LISTINGS
Winter-Christmas in Markleville-held the first Saturday of December at The Hardy Building. Food ,booths and Santa visit! Springtime-Kappa Delta Psi Phi Easter Egg hunt! Lots of eggs, bring the kids for a hunt and visit the Easter Bunny! Usually held right before Easter in our Community Park. Summer-Markleville Jamboree is held the first weekend of August with free admission! Vendor booths, food wagons, kids & adult activities & events, free stage entertainment! Held at our Community Park. Fall-Trunk n Treat-Held at our Community Park. Come and park around our shelter house with decorated car trunks and pass out candy! Free food, drinks, hayrides and candy!! Usually Saturday before Halloween. Be sure to enter our costume contest for all ages! MORE IMFORMATION ON EVENTS WILL BE POSTED ON THIS PAGE CLOSER TO EVENT TIME. Memorial Day Weekend programming is here! Our seasonal naturalists are back in the office and ready to provide our visitors with outstanding programming!

🌳Friday, May 22nd, 1:30pm - Honeysuckle Walking Stick Workshop: Meet the Naturalist in the Visitor Center program room for this 1.5 hour program in which you will remove invasive honeysuckle and process it into a walking stick! All required tools and materials will be provided. All ages are welcome with adult supervision and participation.

🐸 Saturday, May 23rd, 9pm- H**p Hike!: "H**ps" or h**ptiles, refers to reptiles and amphibians- some of the more elusive animals to encounter at Mounds State Park. Meet the Naturalist outside the Visitor Center for an approximately 1-hour program to discuss these unique animals and go out to search for them! Hike may involve stairs or rough terrain. Flashlights and boots are recommended. Wearing insect repellant? Please thoroughly wash your hands before this program - our h**p friends will thank you!

🥾Sunday, May 24th, 1pm - Intro to Backpacking - Curious about backpacking? Meet the naturalist and guest speaker on the front porch to learn about the skills, gear, and tactics to execute a successful backpacking trip. Program lasts approximately 1 hour.

🌿Monday, May 25th, 1pm - Pokeweed Prowl - Pokeweed is an iconic, though misunderstood, plant found in Indiana. Join the for a 1-hour program and hike to learn about Pokeweed, what it is used for, safety precautions for its harvesting and use, and State Park foraging regulations.

🌕Sunday, May 31st, 9pm - Full Moon Hike - Gather outside the Visitor Center to join the naturalist on a 1-hour hike by the light of the second May full moon! Learn about the cultural and historic names given to this moon cycle and more. Hike may involve stairs or rough terrain. Red-light flashlights only, please - a limited number of flashlights are available to borrow courtesy of the Friends of Mounds State Park Inc. Don't forget to stop by the Visitor Center during business hours to pick up the NEW, glow-in-the-dark Full Moon Hike t-shirt! Well-behaved, leashed dogs welcome.

The cookies will be judged based on characteristics, inside and out. (Color, uniform in shape and size, appearance and taste.)

The bird highway is open and the spring migration peak starts tonight and runs into early next week. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights. The graphic below has the list of expected birds moving in during the overnight hours. We are also getting very high reports of hummingbirds right now. They migrate during the day.

Did you know Mounds State Park has a daily bicycle and pedestrian pass? For $2 per person per day you can enter and explore the park on foot or by bicycle. Remember, bicycles must stick to the roads as they are not permitted on any of our hiking trails 🚲🚶‍♀️

Senior Day at the Track, a popular Little 500 Festival event, will be held on Thursday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at Anderson Speedway. Enjoy a meal, live music and door prizes. This free event is for people 55 and over.
