We are Oikaantik , a dedicated group from Central Valley, California with the aim of spreading Indian Culture and Heritage within the community and beyond mainly through the celebration of the "Durga Pujo". Oikaantik means sharing a strong bond, unity, staying as a closely knit community and friendship . "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood , but of respect and joy in each o

ther's life" - Richard Bach

As Oikaantik we want to be that family and bring joy to everyone's life through the essence of Durga Pujo . The four colours of the Oikaantik logo depicts the four aspects of Bengal

Green - It is the color of Bengal's beautiful lush green meadows and lands, fertile and yielding crops throughout the year, bringing joy to the farmer's heart and contributing towards the main livelihood of Bengal which is agriculture - Shyasha Shyamala Bangla . From Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore to Jibanananda Das - Bengal's greenery and agriculture has been a source of inspiration for the poet's verses. The color symbolizes "The Sindur"/Vermillion - Red, Turmeric - Yellow and combination of Yellow and Red - Orange - Abir/Gulal which forms the integral part of Any Indian Puja. There is very famous saying - "Bangalir baro mashe tero parbon" - We celebrate at least 13 festivals in 12 months. Blue - It is the color of the blue sky during the month of Durga Puja. Durga Puja happens during the time of Autumn, the start of fall. As the dark rain clouds slowly disappear, India's sky turns bright and spotless blue, sending ripples down everyone's heart and ushers in the feeling of Durga Puja. The Dhaks(drums) beating in the background and the smell of Shiuli flower - night flowering jasmine, sending the puja vibes. We want o extend this wonderful Bengali tradition to the rest of the community so that they can enjoy every bit of it because Durga Puja is for everyone - "Sarbojonin"

We also want to make sure our younger generation are aware of the Indian Culture, let them know where we come from so that they can uphold their Indian tradition as well as embrace the wonderful American Society.
