Good help is so hard to find!* 🤣

We put the wrong date on our flyer for the Chili & Cornbread Competition. This contest will be on Saturday, Oct 24th, at 2:00pm.
Sorry for any confusion; it has been corrected now, and new flyers are being posted! Please help us spread the word, and if you want to participate, let me know as soon as possible!

*It’s me, I’m the problem! 😅

Chili & Cornbread Contest!

We had a great time with this competition last year, and we were able to raise $350 for Baker County Fire Rescue. We intend to conscript them as our judges again this year, and hope to raise even more money to support our community's heroes. 🥰

The Darbyville is sponsoring again this year, along with our Macclenny Wendy's. The contest will be on Saturday, October 24, so please register as soon as possible!

LEGO at the fair!!

We have two separate LEGO events at the fair again this year, open to kids ages 3-18.

First, we have a LEGO exhibit. Kids will work at home to build a creation that fits the theme "Wheels & Wings." The builds must fit in a 15 inch space, and be sturdy enough to transport. They must be original--if pieces from kits or sets are used, they much be substantially changed. Exhibits are due on Saturday, Oct 17, between 9am and 3pm.

Second, we have the LEGO building competition. This will be held on Tuesday, Oct 20, at 5:00pm. Contestants will have free admission to the fair on this day, and will gather at the stage in the Exhibit Hall. Each contestant will be given a portion of bricks and time to build the coolest thing possible!

Judging will be based on a number of criteria, including creativity and originality, as well as cooperation, encouragement to other contestants, and so forth.

For more info or to register for these events, please message me through this page, or email/text: [email protected] 904-568-2395

Tablescape & Menu Contest!

This is a charming contest that blends old-fashioned entertaining with elements from the hospitality and event-planning industries.

Younger contestants (ages 15 and younger) are allowed to work in teams of two people. Each contestant or team should plan a dinner based around an event or occasion. This dinner should include a theme, menu, decorations, etc.

You will need a small table* (30-36 inches square or round works well), tablecloth or placemats, centerpiece, and place settings for 2 people. Chairs are optional (metal folding chairs are provided) but may add an extra touch! Your outfit should be appropriate for your table theme.

If you are interested in participating, or you would like more info, please message me, email [email protected], or text 904-568-2395

*We have a few tables available to borrow, but you must request them well in advance! First come, first served.

Let's talk about LEGOS! Last year, we brought Legos to the fair in two different ways--an exhibit and a contest. Both were met with great enthusiasm, and we are excited to bring them back this year!

Last week, we invited the participants of the UF IFAS Extension Baker County 4-H Brick Masters Summer Camp to choose a theme for this year's exhibit, open to children ages 3-18 years.

So, without further ado, the theme for this year's Thinking Outside the Blocks LEGO exhibit is:

Wheels & Wings!

Think creatively about this theme and make it uniquely yours! Maybe your idea for a wheel is a wheel of cheese, or a Ferris wheel...and wings might be on something as small as a gnat or something as large as a spaceship!

*Original builds only; if kits or sets are used, they must be substantially modified by the builders.
*Each build must include a written title and description.
*Must fit in a 15-inch space for display purposes.
*Must be sturdy enough to withstand transportation and display.
*Lego and Duplo bricks, and any compatible brands, are allowed.

The Fair Theme for 2026 has been chosen!

"Rooted in the Land; United We Stand"

We wanted to honor our country's 250 years of freedom from tyranny, brought to you --and bought for you--by the bravery and sacrifice of every American soldier who ever believed in the promise of democracy!

(We tried our best to include "semiquincentennial" in the theme, but alas, we couldn't make it rhyme...heck, I'm still struggling just to pronounce it! 😅)
