Monday Leadership Reflection | Memorial Day Edition 🇺🇸

Leadership is not just about authority.
It’s about balance.

Being strong without becoming harsh.
Being kind without losing your voice.
Being bold without tearing others down.
Being humble without shrinking yourself.

Today, on Memorial Day, I’m also reminded that some of the greatest leaders were those who served with courage, sacrifice, humility, and honor. We remember and thank those who gave so much for others.

As leaders—in our homes, businesses, classrooms, healthcare settings, churches, and communities—may we lead with both strength and grace.

What part of this quote speaks to you most today?

Wednesday Leadership Reflection

Everybody says “be resilient”…
But nobody talks about how exhausting that can feel.

The truth?
You can be strong and still need a moment.
You can be resilient and still feel stretched.

That doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you real.

The goal isn’t to push until you break.
It’s to lead in a way that allows you—and others—to breathe.

Reflection:
👉🏽 Where do you need to give yourself (or your team) a little more grace this week?

Monday Leadership Check-In

Resilience isn’t pretending everything is okay.
It’s deciding you’re not quitting—even when it’s not.
It’s showing up.
It’s adjusting.
It’s trusting God in the middle of what you don’t understand.
And if we’re being real… that takes strength.

Check-In Questions:
👉🏽 What is ONE situation right now that’s requiring you to choose resilience over giving up?
👉🏽 Where are you being tempted to quit—but know you’re called to stay?

Midweek Leadership Reflection

Quick check…

Some of y’all are so focused on being respected
that you’ve forgotten how to be kind.

Let’s talk about it.

Because leadership isn’t just about getting results—
it’s about how people experience you while you’re getting them.

And yes…
you can be direct
you can have standards
you can hold people accountable…

…but if people feel small every time they interact with you?

That’s not strong leadership.
That’s unnecessary pressure.

And here’s the part we don’t talk about enough—

Some of the imposter syndrome we see in others…
we helped create.

Every time someone leaves a conversation with you second-guessing themselves…
questioning if they belong…
feeling like they’re “not enough”—

That didn’t come out of nowhere.

Kindness isn’t about being soft.
It’s about being aware of the impact you leave on people.

You can correct someone
without crushing them.

You can lead with excellence
and still lead with care.

So before this week gets away from you—

Pause.

💬 Reflection:

In what way will you show kindness in your leadership this week?

✨ Monday Leadership Check-In ✨

Happy Monday!

Imposter syndrome is the voice that tells you that you don’t belong…
even when you’ve already been invited, qualified, and called.

And if you listen to it?
You’ll start overthinking, over-preparing, and over-perfecting—
trying to prove yourself in rooms you were already meant to be in.

I saw this recently with a friend.

She was questioning herself before an event…
but I saw her, we chatted and hugged and it shifted.

Not because I brought something she didn’t have—
but maybe my presence reminded her:

“I belong here too.”

Some of you don’t need more training.
You don’t need to prove anything.

You just need to stop questioning what God has already confirmed.

This week, show up anyway. Speak anyway. Walk in the room anyway.

💬 Check-in:
Where are you still trying to prove yourself instead of simply showing up as who you already are?

And if you need this in real time…

I’ll be speaking this Thursday at the 8th Annual Empower Women’s Conference (9 AM – 3 PM) hosted by Central Virginia Business Coalition at Legacy Wealth Management in Lynchburg VA on:
“Present, Not Perfect: Showing Up Whole Without the Pressure to Perform.”

Come be in the room. Let’s do this work together.

This brilliant leader was already on the list for Leader of the Week but since she released a new framework this week, it was the perfect time to highlight her! For our second Leader of the Week:

✨ Leader of the Week: Makeda Payne, M.Ed. ✨

Some leaders don’t just teach…
they shift how you see leadership.

This week, we’re celebrating Makeda Payne—owner of CLASS Consulting and a true learning architect.

If you were in the room at Lead on Fire Conference, then you remember her session: “Lead Like David.” What an insightful session with real life application!

What started as a deep dive into Scripture—studying patterns in David’s life—uncovered something powerful… leadership traits woven through every season.

And Makeda did what she does best…

She built from it.

That one session sparked a framework called The Way of Alignment—and now it’s come full circle with her new 6-week “Lead Like David” series, helping leaders move from insight to application. She gives real world understanding to biblical leadership and helps you apply these principles to leadership today!

That’s not just teaching.
That’s transformation.

*Thoughtful
*Intentional
*Aligned

And what I love most?

She loves to learn… and she lights up watching others get it.

Makeda, we see you. We celebrate you. And we’re grateful for how you continue to build leaders from the inside out 💛

🔥 Because at Lead on Fire…
we don’t just talk about leadership—
we honor the ones who are living it.

We missed sharing Leader of the Week last Friday so today, I'm sharing two!
Starting with:

✨Leader of the Week: Christine Wilkes Kennedy

Some leaders walk into a room…
and things shift.

This week, we celebrate Christine Kennedy, of the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance.

Christine is a driving force behind the momentum in Central Virginia—from helping expand air service in Lynchburg ✈️ (we can now fly to Chicago and Dulles direct) to strengthening businesses and creating real opportunity for others across this region.

But what I love most?

She builds people.

Through her work with She Week, she’s pouring into teen girls—helping them find confidence, own their voice, and see who they can become.

That’s legacy!

Christine is also a speaker, executive coach, and a woman of faith who uplifts, encourages, and calls people higher. I’ve seen it firsthand—she was a speaker at Lead on Fire Conference, and her Leadership Lynchburg group joined to partner!

That's partnership!

She’s a breast cancer survivor—and the resilience and faith she carries shows up in how she leads: grounded, intentional, and full of grace.

That's strength!

She doesn’t just inspire you… she stretches you.

Christine, we celebrate you. We honor you. And we're grateful to call you a Lead on Fire friend 💛

🔥 Because leadership isn’t just about what you build…
…it’s about who rises because you showed up.

A little late but here's todays
Monday Leadership Check-In 🔥

Today was long. I got on the road at 6 am for a 2 hour drive to a work site. I was tired when I arrived. But as I pulled in, I remembered.....
Leadership leaves a ripple.
Not just in the big decisions…
but in the small moments.

The way you respond when you're tired.

The tone you use when someone makes a mistake.

The attitude you bring into a stressful day.

People feel that.
Your tone becomes someone’s temperature.
Your attitude becomes someone’s atmosphere.
Your example becomes someone’s permission.

Today I helped turn what could be a stressful day into a very productive eye-opening day!
It could've gone differently but I had the opportunity to decide how my day would go at 6 am.

Most of the time, we don’t even realize the ripple we’re creating.

So here’s today’s leadership check-in:
What kind of ripple do you want your leadership to leave this week?

👇 Share one word that describes the atmosphere you want to create.

Midweek Leadership Reflection

Leadership growth rarely happens inside our comfort zones.

Most of the time, the next level of leadership is waiting on the other side of something that stretches us.

A hard conversation.
A bold decision.
A step into territory you’ve never walked before.

Uncomfortable doesn’t always mean you’re doing something wrong.

Sometimes it means you’re growing.

What’s something in your leadership right now that feels uncomfortable—but you know it’s helping you grow?
