Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6706 meters (4.167miles) in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time with
in the hour is typically used to recover for the next hour’s race. Rules for the Backyard Ultra
1) Course Must be 4 miles 880 feet in length Metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers
2) Starting Corral Measured to fit entire starting field Corral stays the same size thru out the event Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell
3) Starts Each loop starts precisely 1 hour after the last Warning must be given 3, 2, and 1 minutes prior to start All competitors must start at the bell (no late starts)
4) Loops Except for restrooms, competitor may not leave the course until each loop is completed No personal aid during a loop (common aid stations are allowed) Each loop must be completed within an hour to be counted… including the final lap. No artificial aids (including trekking poles) Slower runners must allow passes.
5) Timing Timing of the loops is optional
6) Winner/Results The winner is the last person to complete a loop All others are technically DNF Results of each runner in terms of distance covered are to be given. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.
7) Cap Race must be open ended. The fine print…. We will be using the Blue Mounds State Park Trail system as our Yard. The course is a loop course starting and ending in the same location. Start time is 8am, Saturday October 15, 2022. Please be checked in by 7:30am! Check in and support tent set up can begin at 7:00am on the 15th. There is plenty of room just off the start line. The course will be marked the afternoon of the 14th for anyone wishing to view the entire course. All vehicles inside the park must have a MN State Park Vehicle Permit. These can be purchased the day of the event. There are camping spots available for family and friends located a few yards from the course. Please reach out directly to me to secure a spot. We will have access to a shelter building a few yards from the start line. There are two bathrooms on the course. Both are in bounds and can be accessed during the race. Keep in mind that all runners must be in the starting corral at the start of each yard.
