This is by far our favorite money saving tip for weddings and events, and because you like us, we'll share it with you!

Two words: Discount stores.

Think Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Stein Mart. Once you know your theme and colors, start scouring the aisles for decor for your event. You'll end up with quality items that look great and don't break the bank.

We came across this display yesterday and I nearly squealed with delight. Super cute, event-ready decor at a discount? Yes please!!

When choosing a color palate for your event, make sure that it blends well with the space. Our bride did a great job of complementing this amazing but unique venue flawlessly.

We love when couples make their wedding their own, so when our bride told us she was using Rice Krispie Treats (her fav) in lieu of the traditional wedding cake, we were beyond excited to see the finished product. It looked (and tasted) amazing.

And did you see the Ding Dongs on the table? It was a perfect addition and a huge hit.

If you're going to DIY this idea, I recommend increasing the butter and marshmallows to your Rice Krispies to keep from drying out during the time it is displayed. Toothpicks hold together the layers and rolled fondant was used for the decor.

Signature drinks are the perfect way to create a memorable detail at your event and keep the alcohol costs down.

I often suggest that my clients serve beer, wine, and a signature cocktail (or two or three). Signature cocktails can be anything from your favorite drink to a themed drink based on a name or color.

My Newport couple did a fantastic job with these two perfectly themed signature cocktails for their nautical wedding!

What if you are on a limited budget with a less than amazing space? Get creative!

This bride wanted to use a recreation room for her reception. The worst thing about the room was a giant bulletin board as you walked in that was not allowed to be removed. Our only choice was to cover it.

Here is the before and after of the bulletin board. It added a great focal point that would have been an eyesore otherwise.

This backdrop cost a total of $30 for materials. Small investment for such a big payoff!

DIY Wedding Cake?? When my first DIY bride told me she was making her own cake, I wasn't sure quite what to think. I was a skeptic, but proven very wrong. Since then, three of my savvy super-talented brides and families have made their own cakes. The first was a simple white cake the bride's friends decorated. The next one was made by the groom's mother (love). The third was made by the bride herself. They all look great (and tasted amazing).
