In 1956, a 21-year-old Elvis Presley stepped onto a stage in Lexington, NC — performing at the old YMCA — igniting the kind of hysteria that would ripple across the country and change music forever.

70 years later.

We’re not just gathering.
We’re remembering.
We’re recreating history.

At the Edward C. Smith Civic Center , we will recreate that iconic 1956 performance — starring Maxlee James bringing the raw, early-rock energy of Elvis’ breakout year back to life.

The first group of 2026 Viva Las Lexington competitors have officially been announced — and we could not be more excited.

Each of these artists carries something different to the stage.
A different voice.
A different fire.
A different story.

But they all share one thing:
A deep respect for the music and the man who changed it forever.

There is something powerful about watching a new cohort step into the spotlight. The nerves. The heart. The reverence. The electricity in the room when that first note hits.

This is how a legacy lives on.

We are counting down the days to see what this year’s competitors bring to the stage — how they honor the influence, the style, the spirit of Elvis… and how they make it their own.

At just 18, Maxlee James has already spent over a decade lighting up stages and carrying on the legacy of Elvis Presley. 👑

He snagged his first World Championship in Memphis at only 9 years old and later went on to win the Images of The King Non-Professional World Championship at 16. Since then, he’s been headlining at top festivals including the Myrtle Beach Elvis Festival, 2024 Lynchburg Elvis Festival, and the 2025 Brunswick Tribute Festival. 🎶

When he’s not performing, you’ll find Maxlee out on the golf course — but make no mistake, his true drive is the music. 🏌️‍♂️🎸
