Before hosting middays at KBZT (Alt 94.9) in San Diego, Mady Rhodes was just a music fan figuring it out one concert, CD, and radio moment at a time. 🎸

From first concerts to first artist interviews and the influences that shaped her love for alternative rock, Mady’s Famous Firsts is a reminder that every career in music starts somewhere.

Thanks to Mady Rhodes for giving us a look into the experiences that helped shape her path in alternative radio and music culture for Famous Firsts.

He didn’t exactly ease into radio. He once filled in for a full show and quickly learned what happens when a “creative idea” goes very wrong on-air. Before hosting mornings at KROX (101X) in Austin, Sawyer Stull was already getting thrown into the deep end of broadcasting. 🎙️

From early sports commentary gigs to first concerts, first records, and early artist interviews in Austin’s live music scene, Sawyer’s Famous Firsts traces the moments that shaped his path into alternative radio.

Thanks to Sawyer Stull for sharing his story for Famous Firsts with Shawn Alexander.

Joyce Manor’s I Used to Go to This Bar, released this past January, marks an interesting moment in the band’s evolution both sonically and in how they approached the recording process. In this clip, Barry talks about working with Brett Gurewitz as producer and how that collaboration directly shaped the record. This conversation gives a bit of insight into that process and how the right producer can push an artist into a version of their work they might not have reached otherwise.

“The opportunity to join The Dave and Mahoney Morning Show and co-opt their success as a huge win for myself was something too good to pass up. Working with this show again will be a lesson in patience and resilience and will force me to question my sanity on a daily basis…but it will also be a lot of fun, just as long as they respect my COMPLETELY legitimate title of Regional Vice President of Executive Production and Programming.” - Ross "Bossy Rossy" Mahoney

⚡️ A Nashville snowstorm accidentally gave us In Color.

The band says they got intentionally snowed in together back in January 2024 while all feeling “creatively unfulfilled,” spending days writing music and reconnecting with why they started making music in the first place.

Pulling from influences like The Smashing Pumpkins, Kings Of Leon, The 1975, and even Michael Jackson, the group’s sound lands somewhere between indie pop and alternative rock with a heavy emotional core.

Their latest single “Headlights” came from “following a feeling” instead of chasing a hit, and honestly, that’s probably why it works...

Thanks to Shawn Anderson for getting the interview, and kudos to Dave Barbis and his team at Big Loud Rock on a fantastic artist development story on a brand new band.

MOD SUN just kicked off a new era. ⚡️ He officially signed with Big Loud Rock & dropped his new single “Mirror” alongside a chaotic, high-energy video filled with drums, motorcycles, ci******es + pure catharsis.

The announcement also comes on MOD SUN’s 7 years sober anniversary, ahead of a free hometown-adjacent set tonight at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach. Full circle moment. 🖤

Back in February, had the privilege of an exclusive first listen to “Feathers in a Storm” with Linda Perry ahead of its release on 5/8, alongside her new album and video ⚡️ This moment, just a small piece of the hour we spent with her, captures exactly why HAPPENS exists

Even when there are legends in the room, what makes this conference different is the intimacy. Here’s a glimpse into that space 🔥🎸 Happy Album Release Day 🤘

In this exclusive, Mike Ness and Big Ric talk about the REAL influences that shaped them growing up, how punk spoke to an entire generation of kids looking for identity, and what it truly means to be rebellious. ⚡️🖤🎸

It's also a big day for the band because Social Distortion released their new album Born To Kill.. Go crank it loud and celebrate one of the bands that helped define rebellion for generations. 🔥🤘
