“I realized I could be whoever I wanted to be — but still be rooted in food.”

That message hit hard during keynote with at Bar & Restaurant Expo 2026.

Roy shared the highs, the setbacks, and the moments that shaped his path — being laid off, losing everything, burning bridges, and ultimately finding his way back through food, culture, and connection.

What made his story so powerful was the reminder that failure isn’t always the end of the road. Sometimes it’s the thing that pushes you toward the idea, purpose, or path you were actually meant for.
