Our third tournament was held in January, and we decided to try something different. Instead of our usual G/25; d5 time control, we switched to G/15; d5, giving each player 15 minutes with a 5-second delay. This allowed us to play 5 rounds instead of 3, and it was interesting to see how the faster pace changed the way people approached their games.

We’re not sure exactly when, but we plan to do this again in the future.

We held our second tournament in December, and it was a blast. We saw many familiar faces along with some new ones, which made it even more enjoyable. It was exciting to see this idea continue to grow and come to life.

We hosted our first tournament in November 2025. It was a big learning experience as we worked through the logistics of running a rated event, but everything went smoothly and we were grateful for a great group of players.

We’d like to invite you to join us for our next Checkmates on Fairmont tournament on Saturday, May 16. This will be our first Saturday event, giving us more time to enjoy some great chess.
All of our tournaments are open to players of all ages and skill levels, so whether you’re new or experienced, come out and play with us in May.
