The Vermot Star a Rare Michel Bigatti Carriage was Auctioned at History Center Fundraiser Restored by WWII Veteran Howard Griffin (1927-2025)
“Vermot" is a French surname, used as a topographical name for a small, winding landscape feature such as Vermot-desroches, referencing families from rocky terrains in Normandy.
When WWII Veteran Howard Griffin restored this beautiful 20th Century carriage, he named it The Vermot Star in honor of Normandy, one of the most famous landmarks in world history where U.S. troops landed on D-Day, the turning point of World War II for allied forces.
This Bigatti Carriage was donated to the Oldham County History Center from Howard Griffin’s estate.
The money raised from the purchase of this carriage went to support the history center programs such as their WWII Veterans Oral History Project and other educational projects!!
